Fertility treatment age cut off

Can anyone help. Immreally confused about the age cut off for nhs treatment. Ive been refered to barts today. Im 39 and 4 months of age. Some threads say the funding cut off is that you have to be on the list for treatment by 40 and other people have had the experience that they had to be under 40 on the day of treatment. Confused and very very worried. Dh is obsessed with debt ( Immean ,not getting into it) we dont even have a credit card. I dont think I could convince him to take out a huge loan to pay for ivf.even if we could afford to pay it back( we probably couldnt) . apadently the waiting time til first appointment at barts is 5 months which would make me 3 months shy of 40. Oh shite ( can anyone shed any light on this pleeeeze. Dust to all x

I'm afraid it does depend on the Primary Care Trust. The cut off though is 40, that much I do know. My PCT says that for IVF you have to start at 39 years 6 months, there must be 6 months before the cut off to start treatment. Hope that makes sense.

They may fast track you for an appointment because of your age. The best thing is to look online for your PCT guidance. That will tell you the cut off. It will also tell you how many cycles they will fund and weight restrictions (BMI under 29 or 30)

Good luck.

Aparently its at the consultants discretion and depends on your blood work. If you have you eggs and you were on the list before 40 they will ask the pct as a special case. COMPLICATED

Then i wish you all the best Honey and hope that they allow you to start treatment. Let us know how you get on. Will you need to apply or does the hospital do that for you?
