Hypothyroidism and PCOS! PLEASE HELP

I went to the doctor today for an ultrasound and bloodwork. she suspected pcos because i don't ovulate and because of excess hair.

The ultrasound confermed several cysts and the blood work was all normal glucose, testosterone, ect. the only thing abnormal was my thyroid levels were high so they think I have hypothyroidism.

I go back in a week so they can recheck my thyroid levels.

can hypothyroidism mimic pcos?
does it sound like I have both?
Is there anything I can do to get my levels down before next week?

I am so worried been ttc for 2 years why does this crap keep happening to me i just want to break down into tears.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Not sure about the PCOS...but I have been TTC for 11 months now. I also just had the US and blood work which came back normal...EXCEPT for hypothyroidism. So, I started on low dose of synthroid. However, my ob/gym didn't think that was the ONLY reason I mght not be conceiving, so I am going to go for a hysterosalpingram. sorry if I wasn't much help, but your info sounded similar to mine.

Properly functioning Thyroid is KEY to TTC success. I don't know the exact linkage of hypothyrodism and PCOS but both certainly cause problems with periods and ovulation.

So if you can get that Thyroid under control, that may be your answer!

I have both and at first it is scary but once you get the thyroid under control and they help you ovulate there is no reason why you can't get pregnant

I have both PCOS and hypothyriodism although was diagnosed with PCOS first ten years ago and hypothyroid in April. There is a link between the two from the research I have done. No one in my family but me has PCOS but three of my aunt's have thyroid issues and so does my grandmother.

Once you are on the meds, everything should even out.

i have both too! i am on thyroxine, was prescribed metformin for the pcos but stopped taking it as made me have an upset tummy. once they have sorted out your levels you should see your results improve. good luck! x

re: Thyroid?

That's what my Doctor suspected too - I had to retest my thyroid a month later, for her to confirm the high reading - but the retest ended up being within normal ranges. So she said that's high, but not constantly so, so no thyroid meds for me. I have PCOS as well though, so things are wonky anyways. Fortunately, I have an iron stomach, so I've been on metformin for about 6 weeks with very few "symptom days".
