NHS fertility treatment

Im starting clomid tomorrow, I suffer from pcos and have been trying to conceive fo over 3 years.
I have no idea what to expect. I notice a lot of people on here are based in America. I could use some advise on what to expect through NHS treatment please? X

Hi there!!

I'm in the south east of england.

All Primary Care Trusts in the UK have different criteria for what treatment you can receive in your area. So get in touch with your local PCT.

Also, if you look up the NICE guidelines on infertility, it gives you an idea of what treatments are recommended that you should recieve. This is'nt to say that you will receive these treatments, but it arms you with a bit more information.

It really really depends on where you live, but also on how far you can get referred by doctors. My GP referred me to the hospital for PCOS related fertility treatment. They faffed about a bit, gave me some clomid, which made me ovulate the first time, but not the second. Then that doctor told me she didn't know why that happened and she then referred me to an even more specialised doctor who has now given me clomid and metformin (a miracle cure to help women with PCOS lose weight) and will be doing follicular tracking so they can actually see what is happening. Keep trying and don't let them persuade you to "keep trying" the same thing if it doesnt work the first couple of times, ask for a different approach. You only get so many months (supposedly 6) of clomid.

Oh and you can expect some PMS type symptoms whilst taking Clomid. I think it varies a lot between different people, but I swing wildly from a snappy grumpy whingebag through ridiculously happy to downright melancholy. All usual effects though. Oh and your mucus might change too.

I'm in the north east area. All they have mentioned so far is clomid, so hopefully it will work for me n not have to do anything further!:-S x

I need to find out if they will be tracking my cycle or not. For ovulation. My periods are sooo irregular, It seems some don't! Though it is a fertility clinic so you would think so! C

You would think so, but mine are not too bothered, they just want a general 'how long were your cycles'

You will find here in the UK they do not go into as much detail and testing as they do in the US, which is a shame really, because I think a lot of money could be saved and a lot of women would not be sent straight for IVF.
