lil bit of advice pls?

Hey everyone,

I've a daughter who is 5 and miscarried early on depo in 2009. I have been contraception free for 2 years and same partner yet no baby. Had my day 3 bloods done, all mid-range normal. Doc has told me to wait 6 months then go back for referral as is difficult to get nhs funding as I have 1 child.
My partner is going to get his sperm checked in next few weeks.
As I have had ovarian cysts in the past (quite badly A+E trips resulting in morphine n drips etc) also non simple cysts in past, my thinking is that if my partner sperm is ok then I will go back to doctor and beg for an up to date ovarian scan as havent had one for year.

My question is, is a scan the correct 1st step to ask for or would they do this at fertility specialist anyway so better to ask for the referral straight away?

Thank you in advance for your help x

I say ask your normal doctor to arrange a scan for you and get a referral to a specialist as well because you wont get in to the specialist straight away and when you get there it would be good for them to know what they are dealing with straight away, otherwise they will just send you away for more tests which will take another month at least.

I made sure I had everything done before we got in to the specialist so there was as little waiting as possible and it still took ages.

Also get him to do day 21 and thyroid bloods done too

thank you for your reply. I had blood tests for thyroid function, diabetes etc recently due to unexplained exhaustion, all came back good. What are the day 21 tests for? Like what do the results actually reflect?
I'll follow your advice and ask for both when I go back in next couple weeks thank you How are you getting on? x

The day 21 bloods are just to make sure you are ovulating and to make sure there is enough progesterone to support a pregnancy if it was to happen.

I'm ok, I had an IUI done over a week ago now so I'm just waiting to find out if it worked

Sorry for the rude question but how old are you and what country are you in? Just wondering as options differ based on age and location. Just had a nose at your journal, first time I have looked at one. It makes it hit home that while I've kept brushing it under carpet while getting more and more upset each month, you have to take control and I admire your strength.
And while I havent been on this site long, I have not caught in the 2 years have been off contraception so guess I am LTTC now, I'm going doc next week n not leaving til they put my scan n FS request through. How is little one getting on at nursery? x

No offence taken I turn 27 in a couple of weeks and I live in new zealand. Our health system is a lot like it is in the UK.
