PCOS and BFP after 2 1/2 years!

Just thought i'd pop on over and let you have a brief insite into our story.

DF and I had been together just over a year when I was diagnosed with PCOS. Most symptoms had been masked by the contraceptive pill I was on but PCOS was confirmed as quite bad after scans and bloods. We then faced the decision of trying to decide what to do - stay on the pill and risk having a long time TTC in the future or come off the pill and take things as they came hoping it would happen for us. We chose the latter - I was worried with him being 4 years younger than me but he stated qute clearly that if we waited 2 yrs to come off the pill and then it took 3 yrs TTC then thats a bloody long time!!

So I came off the pill, and we took it from there - no temping, planning, plotting or anything! My AFs were very irregular (sometimes 120 day cycles)and after 1 yr we were referred to our specialist at Ipswich hospital. I was advised to get my BMI down (It was about 35) and see how we went. If my BMI got below 30 then I would be prescribed Clomid. I was also prescribed Metformin to try and help with the weightloss and cycle length. I joined Slimming World and proceeded to lose some weight (as i'm sure a lot of you PCOS gals know, this is NOT easy!) and my BMI went down to just under 32. Cue next appointment. He said I had done very well but to carry on,
as the met had slightly helped my cycle length! I was also prescribed a few doses of Provera to try and kick start my ovaries In this time I had tried OPKs, temping, saliva microscope, every day BDing, every other day BDing, you name it, we tried it, but nothing!! I carried on losing weight and was happy to get my BMI to 30.1 before going to Malta for my best friends wedding - so happy that at my app when I came back my Clomid would finally be prescribed!! Went on holiday - almost no alcohol (i gave up when started TTC) watching my food etc I can back after 2 weeks away and had gained 11 lbs. To say I was deverstated was an understatement, all the hard work was lost in me having a couple of ice creams, a couple of cocktails on her hen do and a glass of champers on her wedding day!!I went to the specialist and it ended in tears! I explained what had happened and to my relief he said, OK, lets try you on Clomid - you must continue with slimming world, which I did I was prescribed 150mg to take on day 2-6. I had to take the dreaded Provera again (after having terrible bouts of depression when being on it before) but with knowing I had something to work on at the end of it, it was much better. As standard with treatment in Ipswich hospital, i was referred to the fertility clinic and would receive full follicle tracking scans (scan every 2 days from CD14 to measure number and size of follicles) and when reaching the green light, I would have the HCG trigger shot to promote OV with int 36 hrs Took the Provera, waited only 3 days for AF (after waiting 13 days the time before) and I was away!! With more positivity than i'd had in a long time! On CD14 scan I had 1 follicle at 18mm so my HCG was given (what a pain in the bum - literally!!) and let the BDing commence!! Got to test day (15 DPO) - negative, tested every day till 19 DPO and then the witch arrived with a vengenence!! Proper gutted!! But ready to go again, same cycle followed but with CD14 falling on a Sunday I had my first scan at CD12 - 2 follies this time, one at 15mm and one at 17mm so told to come back on Monday! Both had grown to within the ideal size scale (between 1 and 4 follies between 18mm and 22mm) so HCG given again! BDing commenced

Did a test at 15DPO and within about 1 min the control window had a very dark line in it and the other window was empty!! Cue this months disappointment! Went in and made my sandwiches, had brekkie etc and the went back to the bathroom to brush my teeth! I glanced at the test, still sitting next to the sink and saw a line!! Then felt stupid for getting my hopes up because it'd been sitting there for about 15 mins!! So i waited till just before going to work and tried to squeeze another wee out altho i knew it wouldn't be FMU! Went out and waited 3 1/2 mins, went back in and there is another line!! This is what I got.....

There it was, finally my BFP!! Drove straight to OHs work and thankfully it was just him in - passed him both tests and we just cried together, he held me for about 15 mins and it was the best feeling in the world! And now here I am, over 7 months later about to pop!!

The only advice I can give people is DO NOT TEST EARLY!!! This can be the biggest source of heartbreak. I see faaaar too many chemical pregnancies and that heartbreak could be avioded. And also don't keep testing. These were my lines and this is it! I took a couple of digis just to see "pregnant" and thats it!! What will happen will happen and taking tests etc won't change that!

Don't give up hope gals, miracles do happen xxxxxx

If anyone has any questions on my treatment, just ask

Don't give up hope hun, push it, when I started my Clomid my BMI was high so they can give it to you! The reasoning they don't is because it is proved to be less effective with a raised BMI. The reason Suffolk are more strict on it is because we get strict follicle tracking, HCG jabs etc whereas most PCTs in Englad don't offer that Good luck x

Hey Vici..

Sorry I know this is a very old post, but I'm shocked at how similar our stories are! lol,

I've got my BMI down to 31 now, need to lose another 9lbs, i'm on metformin, got PCOS, do Slimming world.. AND... i'm near Ipswich (woodbridge) and being referred there as soon as I get to 14st =)

Is it okay for me to ask you a few questions on clomid and the tracking etc?

thanks so much x x x
