A BFP while waiting for IVF or adoption - male factor and irregular O

I'm sure most of the girls in LTTTC know me, or at least, most of the girls who have been in there for a while!

We have been TTC for nearly 3 years (not long by some LTTTC standards) and have had most tests done. In the UK it was found that I only O'd sporadically and DF's morphology was diabolical.
HSG was clear
After being pushed form Dr to Dr over 12 months we finally got referred for IVF, the letter was sent 5 days before we emigrated! Yeah, the awesome efficiency of the NHS at work as always.

So we moved house and country and kept trying. We found the most amazing f/s out here (the wonders of private healthcare) and when tested again after a few months we found both myself and DF were fine, DF's morphology had gone from 4%normal forms to 22%!

So we were told no help was available for another 3 years (over here you have to have been trying for over 5 years to get funding for assistance if its unexplained infertility)

We went away and kept trying (although not very enthusiastically!) we moved house, got a puppy and kept enjoying life. WE have also seriously been considering adoption as a option for us.
DF even agree'd I could have a horse again. Who was duly bought home about 7 days ago
By this last month we had pretty much given up all hope of conceiving naturally and had accepted we might try a couple of rounds of IUI and if that failed we would adopt.

I did a duathalon last Sunday and felt fine, but since AF was due I thought it odd the exercise hadn't brought calling (usually a run brings her straight to my door if shes faffng about) So I decided since I had POAS in the cabinet (thank you Tans!) I might as well indulge my obsession

And blow me away I got 2 lines, my 1st 2 ever i promptly threw the POAS away and pretended it hadn't happened as I thought it was some sort of joke! Poor DF!
A CB HPT came up + on Monday and the Dr has confirmed it today. My f/s has ordered bloods 48h apart to confirm my levels are increasing properly and booked in a scan in about 2-3 weeks to check for a heartbeat etc.

We honestly are the happiest couple at the mo!

Congratulations Farie! I don't think we've spoken before but I've seen you around!

Wow, this is amazing, what a shock for you!

Were you doing anything differently the cycle you conceived? Me and DH are nearly at the 2 year stage now and using clearblue digi ov tests, preseed, bum on cushion, softcups etc etc every cycle. I'm thinking of throwing it all in and reverting to good old fashioned Bding when we feel like it!

Hope you have a very H&H remaining 8 months. And enjoy every minute. You deserve it!

Hi peekaboo

Nothing different this cycle, in fact the last month or so we have been really lax, barely using my CBFM at all, not using pre-seed or zestica and BDing pretty sporadically! We did manage to dtd the day before O, but more by luck than organisation!

We have been pretty busy, had the MIL staying and to be honest wasn't high in my mind this month! We had both pretty much given up any hope of conceiving naturally.
I wish I could pinpoint a magic ingredient, but as DF said earlier to me, its just dumb luck!

Good luck chick, I hope it happens for you soon in the meantime all I can suggest is filling your life with as many distractions and other cool fun stuff as possible - it wont get you preggers, but it makes the time pass a lot quicker!

Thanks hun! I think that sometimes the 'military' way of TTC doesn't help much. Part of me feels that if I return to just BDing whenever (or NTNP) then I'm not doing enough but on the other hand maybe using all the 'tools' is too much! I agree with you that distractions are good, so if I'm not preg this cycle I'm going to go and have some fun!!

Congratulations again, I'm so pleased for you!! xx

Great news Farie - congratulations.

Im on cycle 27/28 myself - its taking forever - feel like im never gonna see a BFP. But your story has given me hope - i must try to relax and go with the flow a bit more - and stop obsessing.

Hope you have a H&H 9 months.

Waiting on AF to start IVF, no show?

Farie,
Gosh, I googled people who were waiting on AF to start IVF & your thread came up. I've only just joined baby&bump today. Was trying to get some opinions, I'll fill you in. TTC for 3 years, had clomid & 3 x IUI's all failed. We went for pre-period scan last week on 21st April, ok except i had a small cyst on my L ovary. Was due to go back on day 2 of AF, she was due 26th April, hasnt shown yet. I've had sore boobs but not the ususal cramping. So I did 2 first resp on 26th & 2 x tesco cheepo tests on the 27th. Both came up with 2 lines.....fainter than the main line, but still there.

Am I jumping the gun a bit? I've a 26-27 cycle normally, but how would i have faint positives especially on the day i'm due?

Were you late when you first tested? If so how many days either side of AF were you? Thanks for the help, we should've been back today (well 27th) at the clinic for day 2 & to show us how to use the meds etc, they're just waiting for our call......

thanks
delmar x

Hi Farie,

Congratulations! Can I ask, did they say anything about why/how your partners sperm morphology improved? My understanding is that there's not much that can be done to improve it. Did he make any changes to his diet/lifestyle?

My husband's morphology is 4%, so I'm really hoping we can improve it. His count (48 million/ml) and motility (53%) were ok. Also how long did it take to conceive from finding out the second SA results?

Sorry for so many questions! Wishing you a very happy and healthy pregnancy.

Hey hon, we were still on the IVF waiting list so hadn't started any treatments yet.
I tested a day or so after AF was due and it was a faint it took a few days to get darker, by 16dpo it was a firm line and my hcg was 595. I'm not really a poas person. I only tested as the duathalon hadn't brought on AF, which for me is unheard of, any exercise clsoe to AF will bring on spotting/bleeding. I had no 'pregnancy' symptoms at all.
May be give it a few days and see how it goes

Hey there, my DF's morphology was 4% too, he had about 3 SA in the UK that all came back wit that result, but his count and motility were actually ok. We got the improved count about 9 months ago, after being out here for about 3 months.

For us a major change was emigrating, its led to a much less stressful lifestyle, better diet, more exercise and generally being more chilled and happy.
Vit wise DF takes a multi vit, additional vit C and Zinc and a Selenium supplement (when he remembers that one!) We eat a LOT of fresh organic veggies, drink juice, don't have any caffeine and done really drink alcohol at all. DF wears very loose undies and has cool showers.

Dont give up on bad SA, things can change and improve, but it can take some big changes (haha I'm not suggesting emigrating!!)
