co-codamol

when i was 6 weeks gone, i started getting the 'normal' pains you get at that time with the stretching and whatnot but worried i went to my walk in centre (it was a sunday + doctors weren't open!) and the doctor there prescribed me co-codamol for the pain.

however, 2 weeks later i went into a+e where they said i had a water infection. when they asked if i was on any pain killers i said co-codamol and they said i wasn't meant to be having it because i was pregnant!

however just recently my back pain's got worse and paracetamol's just not hitting the spot so i did a bit of research on the internet and there's so many mixed views on it's safety! have any of you girls taken co-codamol or have been advised not to take it?

Its bad to take co-codamol because the baby can get addicted to it if taken too much. I think I took it twice before in a previous pregnancy but I didn't know I was pregnant at the time. If you take it once in a while I don't think it will cause any harm.

Can you ask your doctor or midwife to prescribe you something? I had really bad migraines and I was prescribed something with codeine in it, I can't remember the full name tho x

I only took paracetamol as a last resort if my back pain was real bad. Wouldn't recommend unless midwife/doctor prescribed me with it tbh. Even then I still wouldn't be happy to take it unless it was a couple of times if bath/hot water bottle/massage really wouldn't work. That just personal choice though

ohh okay thanks girls it's just weird cos the doctor at the walk in centre was convinced it was absolutely safe!
i'll probably just have to get used to walking round with a hot water bottle strapped to my back!

You could always try a back support. It might be the way you stand making the pain worse

That is odd because co-codamol is quite a strong pain killer so i am suprised they gave you that x

I really badly broke my ankle at the end of last year and was still in a lot of pain in like January, February and my doctor said I was still alright to take Codine Phosphate. I know not the same. But he just monitored my dosage and made sure that I was never on a high enough does for a dependency to be created by either me or LO.

It is best to check with your doctor first.

There pretty much are no "safe" medications to take during pregnacy. They just usually weigh the benifit to the mother against the risk to the baby and see which one is greater.

know im not a teen, but thought id tell you my experience. i have really bad arthritis and ive come off everything, not so much as a paracetamol (i was on regular steroids, indometacin and tramadol so you can guess how bad it is) i spend a lot of my time in agony but use heat patches and warm baths when its really bad (like OMG i cant freaking walk bad) it helps a tiny bit. its super frustrating but will be worth it in the end
