6 weeks early, Jacob is here! Birth story & picture (Sorta long)

Hi everyone, I have been missing the last week- because I had my little boy! Jacob Tobias Mabe Jacob was born on April 3rd,2012 at 6:40 pm via emergency c-section. He weighed 4 pounds,5 ounces and was 17 inches long. I will attach a picture. So here is what happened...

Monday night I had agonizing pain in my upper back and the top of my bump, I tried to let it go away for about a half hour before I called the hospital. The doctor on call said he felt my pain was "not pregnancy related" and to lay on a heating pad. When he said this, I literally asked "are you sure?" and he continued on to tell me he'd been practicing for 20 years and he knew what he was talking about. I took his word for it because I had an appointment the following morning with my doctor and I would be able to talk with her about it.

The next morning I woke up without pain and went to my appointment, I told my doctor about what happened. She took my blood pressure and said it was a little higher than normal. She also checked and saw that I was 2 cm dialted and 80 percent effaced. My jaw was on the floor since I was only 34 weeks along. She said my pain the night before must have been contractions. When she measured my belly, she said it was small for dates and wanted me to head straight to the hospital for blood work and an ultrasound.

...So I went I was immediately admitted to the birth center. And after the bloodwork/ultrasound they came back with the news that the baby was under a lot of stress and I was developing HELLP syndrome. HELLP syndrome is a sickness that is very rare & they do not know what causes it. Basicallly, my liver and kidneys stopped producing correct enzymes and stuff in my blood, so I ended up needing several blood transfusions after my c-section to make my blood levels right. My blood was also not clotting. My doc said that I was going to have to be induced or have a c-section, but strongly recommended a c-section since the baby was already under stress. I had the c-section.. and although he was premature, he did perfectly... NO COMPLICATIONS at all with Jacob. He was a strong little man and came out perfectly healthy despite his little size

So anyway, we spent a week in the hospital waiting for me to get back on track with the HELLP syndrom. I also had a spinal headache from the spinal injection and had to get a blood patch transfusion. It was a hellish week spending our first easter with jacob in the hospital, but at the same time, I am so madly in love with him and cannot imagine life without him.

Jacob was actually discharged before I was but they let him stay with me We both got home from the hospital today and are doing much better He is perfect...

Here is my little man
