i think they should be free!
at my hospital its 5pound for 1 or 10pound for 3 they print out of the machine the sonographer uses and he gives you them in the room, then the receptionist will ask you if you've had any photos.
alot of the time if you ask for 1 they give you 2, at my last appointment i asked for 3 and got given 6!

That's really odd they make you guys pay for them. I was given four for free at my first scan. My sister was given over 10 (she got lucky) for free, and everyone I know has gotten theirs for free. I think that's ridiculous they make you pay.

yeah that's true, I had my first scan at 7 wks & I was furious when they made me pay as you can't even see anything really, then at my 9 week one it was a dif sonographer & she gave me the scan for free & said its ridiculous how they charged me - guess it depends on the staff at the time xx

At mine it £5 for two different pictures in a little cardboard frame type thing. You buy the ticket before you go for your scan and then the sonographer will print out how many you've paid for. Mine didn't give change.

But saying that i had a scan at the early pregnancy unit and i got a picture for free! and today i had a random scan will post later and got a picture for free!

At my hospital they are £4 each, there wasn't a machine but you pay the lady when you give her your book, I paid for 2 but got 4 anyway the nurse said "oh look I can't count" I get the feeling the nurses think its a bit silly some times as we had more than we paid for when I had Sophie but I'm sure it was only £3 each then?!, I know it greatly differs between hospitals tho x

Thanks everyone...i thought i posted yeasterday but obviously not :/

Its just an easy way for them to make money as they know every parent will want a picture of their baby. But paying for a picture of your own baby is just stupid.

I'm really getting quite excited now and can't wait will post a piccy when i've had my scan on monday xx

Wow, my hospital must be seriously out-dated and technophobic, I had to pay the woman at the reception and she gave me a handwritten receipt to give to the ultrasound woman!

Sorry I can't be of much help, just didn't realise other hospitals have machines for this lol! I'd imagine you'd need alot of change for multiple copies (of the same image) and I don't think there'd be a maximum amount of photos you could have aslong as you're paying.

It sucks that you have to pay. We get one copy of a couple different pics.
We just photocopy them if family want a copy
