Screening for Down's Syndrome?

Hello ladies
So i had my first midwife appt today and all went well
However, she did mention about screening for down's syndrome. Im confused as whether to have it done or not(will be keeping baba either way)!! Are we low risk anyway because we are younger?
What are your opinions?

I did it. It's not any strain on your part, and personally I'd want to know. I don't think we are really LOWER risk, but over 35 or 40 is a slightly higher risk. I wanted to know, because if it came back positive then I would be able to prepare myself for it. I have a friend whose sister has Down Syndrome and while I don't think any different of her, it DOES take a lot more effort on the parents' part.

It's a small vial of blood, and if the initial screen comes back positive then you can deal with it from there

I wouldn't say we're more low risk because of our age tbh, but I think it's a good thing to do, if you're keeping your baby either way I feel it would be easier knowing if I did happen to be high risk as I could prepare myself, but that is just my opinion

Ohh, my midwife put me under the impression that I didn't need it as i would be low risk anyway. My mums saying i don't need it as it wouldn't make a difference and would just make me worry, however, OH thinks it would be better to know so if it's positive we can be prepared :s

Go ahead and get it done! It's a normal routine check.
They actually did a second one for my baby because he had a bloated tummy which is a sign - but THANK GOD it did come back negative. Waiting for the results was the scariest weeks of my life, but it's better to know.
The chances of a teens baby having it is VERY low though
I'm sure you LO will be just fine

Your midwife shouldn't be saying things like that to you, just because there is a set age for 'high risk' doesn't mean young people can't be at risk either (sorry hope I'm not scaring you!) Don't let other people interfere in your decision though

What does the test involve? Is it just a blood test?

They do a measurement at the back of baby's neck during the scan and then take bloods afterwards
