Thinking about moving across the country...thoughts?
I have lived in California my entire life. My whole family is here, the weather is phenomenal, and I love it. However, it is incredibly expensive. My OH and I are living at my parents house with our LO and we feel like we'll never make enough money to live out here. It costs at least $1000/month just to rent a studio apartment! I feel like if we don't move somewhere cheaper, we'll be stuck with my parents forever.
My OH's whole family lives in Illinois. It is much much MUCH cheaper to live there and we're confident that if one of his family members would help us out for a while (we already know a few who will), we'll be able to save up enough money to rent our own place within a month or so. So we're thinking of packing up and taking my car to Illinois after we save up a decent amount of money here.
Do any of you live in the midwest? What's it like? Is it manageable financially?
I live in Ohio and besides the weather I love living here.
I say if its cheaper and they will help you out go for it...
Sometimes you have to do what is best for your family even if its moving away from some of your family
Hope it all goes well if you do
I live in Wisconsin and I love it...with the exception of the weather. Where I live, the rent is relatively cheap (my husband and I rented a 3 bedroom house for $600/month). The only problem we ran into financially was that where we were living (with our parents) there weren't any jobs. But we moved to a different area of the state and the job outlook was much better and my husband was able to get a decent job.
I think that it might be hard at first to move away from your family but you'll have family in Illinois and in the long run it might be better (and cheaper) for you and your little family. Hopefully you're able to sit down with your OH and figure it all out. Best of luck, hun.
Same idea my OH came up with. We live in Jersey and prices are about the same... We were thinking Georgia. The only difference is we want to go where we know nobody... I'm sure prices will be much cheaper! Good luck with everything!!!
Thanks for your responses ladies! I'm absolutely certain that we're going to be moving within a year. It just can't work for us here, it is WAY too expensive. Fortunately I'm starting a schooling program which will hopefully land me in a decent work from home job (92% of their graduates are employed within 60 days). I'm so excited for my future! I've lived in southern CA my entire life, and I'm sooooo ready to leave the nest
I couldn't imagine $1000 dollars a MONTH! Holy poo! I'd absolutely have to move. We live in NC & we pay $180 a month for our house. I think moving is a good idea, plus it'll leave you with more money at the end of the month to just have fun with OH & LO!
I'm just popping over here from the pregnancy forums sorry haha
But is $1000 a month expensive in the US? In aus, my OH and I pay about $1200 for our rent a month, then $100 for phone and Internet, and electricity every 3 months, and that's pretty average for where I am!
