This makes me sad It's really not.. when you factor in everything a photographer has to buy/pay/do, they really do end up with mere pennies in their pocket at the end of the month. I know it seems an awful lot when you're not aware though.

Do you have anyone else? Friends/family that are good with a camera? They won't be like the in-studio shots but you can get pretty damn close! These are photos I took recently of my 5 month old nephew in my living room with nothing more than my camera, a white sheet and lots and lots of natural light.

Ask around! There's bound to be someone near you that would be willing to give you a fair price or even for free if they're looking to expand their portfolio
I do understand what you are saying, it's just for me a professional photo costs too much for what it is (for me anyway, I'm quite poor lol!) so I am happy with digital camera pictures of them outside playing or with family members, pictures I can do myself of the boys "in action" you could say, rather than posing in front of a white background!

I spose its just down to what you like, dont get me wrong I do love professional pictures, but its not overly important to me!

Plus, like I said I do have a friend who is doing photography so he has done pictures in the past for us for free, he has all the lighting and a good camera and we just used a bed sheet for the back drop lol xx

This is one of my favourite pictures of Frazer, my friend did it in our living room for his uni project haha!

We had Delilah's newborn pictures done with a voucher we had for a free photo session and a free 8' x 10' print and then we could order any other pictures that we wanted, we ended up spending about £200 but we paid it off in installments and we have A LOT of pictures and 5 really big ones, and 1 really big framed one.

You could just go and get the free print though

I just got my pictures in the post this morning I got done in the hospital. Mine weren't too bad of a price. About £27 for 4 pics of 7x5 (I think) and I got a free keyring. At first I thought it was steep but for the quality of them it's so worth it. If you look around you can get sound good deals. I'll be trying to find a photographer who would be willing to use us for practice as they charge less
