Seperation anxiety and nursery!

Hello!

My 2 year old has bad separation anxiety! I have been a SAHM since last June, but I will be going to university in September and she will be off to Nursery and I can already imagine what she is going to be like- she will be 3 in August and need to nip it in the bud before its too late..

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

hi my son is like this although he is younger than your lo. He was stuck to me or his Grandma like glue so i put him in nursery 1 morning a week (when i was at work) so he would get used to other children it took quite a few settling in sessions & a lot of crying but he now loves nursery & crys when i pick him up. x

Maybe I need to ring them and ask for a settling in session, im sure they asked me if I wanted one but I said no because I couldn't deal with LO getting upset at the time but I guess its time to toughen up!!

Will they let you sit and watch them the first time they are there, or do you have to leave?

the nursery my lo goes to they give you as many settling in sessions as you feel u think they will need i think we had 5.
The first 3 times i would sit & watch and they would interact with lo and play with him and he would keep looking back knowing i was there. the last 2 times i stayed then when he wasnt looking i would go out to reception for 45 minutes to see how he took to it. when i dropped him off after that he cried the odd time but i rang 30 minutes later & i could hear him giggling in the background.
Its been really great for my lo as i work full time so dont have the time except weekends for messy play etc and he seems to really enjoy that at nursery plus they are always sending photos home of him having fun with his friends. x

Ds1 had several settling in sessions at nursery coz he was very upset to begin with. For the first few I would stay and play with him and then he had a few short sessions on his own so he knew I was coming back for him. He still sometimes cries when I drop him off but I know he has fun while he is there. When I picked him up last Friday he was busy reading with his key worker and just looked at me and carried on. When the book was finished he came running over.
