Please secure your blind cords

Not sure if anyone has seen the news today, but yet another toddler has died after getting caught up in blind cords.
There have been 22 deaths since 1999 of children hanging in blind cords. 10 of these deaths have occurred since 2010.

For less than a pound each, you can get blind cord cleats/hooks that will prevent your child getting tangled in the cords.
All of my blinds have these cleats fitted.

Please - get some. lets not increase that horrible statistic you see above!

I would never have blinds in a childs room, its something my parents actually taught me as a child when I asked them to put blinds in my room and they wouldnt do it.

Also one of the rules of thumb with a childs room is to not have the crib/bed next to the window.

i've just ordered some cord safety hooks for my blinds and for my parents and in-laws. they're only 1.49 each - it's not worth not having them.

i'm not sure how good they'll be but its worth a try

We have black out roller blinds in the girls rooms.
They are attached to the wall with a runner cleat thing as shown in the first post.
Unfortunately, the IKEA ones are far too long and needed trimming.
I then bought some blind connectors to rejoin the ends of the nobbly cord - all of these are safety gizmos designed to give way if too much pressure is put on them and they snap- a bit like the safety catches that lanyard ID holders have (to prevent choking)

Great, I thought!

I've managed to use a whole bag though as they seen to snap at least twice a week!

Any other ideas? (Other than get rid of the blinds, or bulk buy the connectors!)

we have the Argos blackout roller blind. They also have the snap connector. That snap connector just snaps back together so you don't need to buy more connectors.
I also have a cleat attached to the wall.
