Worse at nap and bedtime, she is ok for five mins then is choking etc. cot/ pram are elevated but not helping much.I bought benylin apple cough med,it's age suitable but not sure wether to try it. Has anyone used it or know of anything else? She's miserable

none of them work, best thing is warm juice/water.

all they do is soothe the throat they dont actually get rid of the cough.

use calpol if you think its making her throat hurt etc x

Doctors never prescribe anything for coughs because there's no prof they work, in fact, they can sometimes have the opposite effect and prevent LO being able to cough up mucus etc. the best sort of cough medicine if you must use it would be honey and lemon. You can buy a simple lincture over the counter but that's the only thing they will sell you. I've only ever seem the benelyn stuff in home bargains.

Hi there,
My doc recommended against using cough medicine when LO had a bad cough.
He said that, if they're coughing, its getting whatever it is out and off the chest. Where a cough medicine would suppress it.
Hope your LO gets well soon xx

I use cough syrup with Earl last thing at night if he has a cough/cold/core throat. It's mainly because he has a very close gag reflex and if he coughs at night he's likely to be sick. I bought Boots own blackcurrant and glycerin but have used that you you've got in the past. It's very sticky lol. My advice, is offer it, but don't expect miracles as the effects don't last long, and if it's a chesty cough, then it wont do anything much, just alleviate symptoms and help her to sleep.

I steam up the bathroom and sit with them in the bathroom. Also honey seems to help soothe. I also offer less milk products when they have a cough as it seems to make things worse.

I second steaming up the bathroom, I put a few menthol crystals or karvol into a little tub of boiled water and put it in the bath so the vapours mix with the steam. I also rub karvol or Vicks on the soles of his feet after bath and put thin cotton socks on to bed, this seems to help as does a Karvol plug-in. I gave him cough syrup in the past and it made him totally hyper not used any again.

Jordan is getting her top teeth and she is swallowing more drool at night as well with it. I've been giving ibuprofen when she is having real sleep issues with it and that has helped.
