MAdeleine could do an 'M' before she started school... They start at the beginning in reception class , if LO can't write at 2/3 it's not a problem...

Mojo can recognise his name in writing, but he can't write it himself... It's probably because his toy box has 'mojo' written on it in big letters and he's learnt what his name looks like

I wouldn't worry they all get there in the end. My LO is 4 in sept and has no interest at all in writing or learning letters/numbers by sight.

Our (just turned) 3 yrs 8 months old can write anything now, even in fairly small letters. He's a fabulous drawer too, however, so his fine motor skills are good. He started "drawing" huuuge letters where his name or a word might barely fit on a page. At some point, he started trying to copy tiny letters (but it was a bit illegible haha). I don't recall exactly how long it took (would have to look it up), I am sure I bragged on here at some point lol; He did have some of those preschool books that allow tracing and did use them for some time early on. I do know he was already writing quite clearly in the fall, as I have cards or drawings where he wrote his name, or family names. Now he can spell out words...and is reading and understanding whole sentences, albeit simple ones, like "no, no, this is an elephant" or "here is my dog" etc. (he's memorized some sight words for years now). To be fair, he is reading mostly in German, some in French; which I think is much easier than English...Overall, the development took quite some time (he knew his alphabet in large and small letters 2 years ago), and came in spurts (we didn't push...). His reading took off all of a sudden, as did his drawing last year; it's really interesting.
