My son turns 4 tomorrow and the only letter he's interested/can write is X. He can read all the letters and knows most of their sounds, so we're just getting the hang of reading, but he's never been interested in writing.

She knows how to spell her name but no where near writing it. Still working on letter recognition

a very good point. "Abby" is a piece of cake in comparison!

Charlie wrote his name for the first time just before Christmas so he was over 4. Last summer he couldn't really hold a pen properly but he took a huge interest in letters and writing and his progress has been amazing. He practises a lot in pre school and likes doing it at home now. I leave pens and paper around and he practises whenever he feels like it, he likes using his blackboard as well.

We only start schooling at 6 to7 years if age, so unless a kid is academically inclined they wont be able to read or write at toddler age. I know i wrote my own name at the age of 6. (and writing other things)(and was reading too)

3 years 8 months with chalk on the black board & just under 4 years with a pen on paper but he can only do it in capital letters and still isn't very good at holding a pen. He shows very little interest in writing. x

He can't yet. He can write an X, but doesn't even recognise the other letters.
