Moved from Scotland to England, confused about schools

I recently moved to north Hertfordshire from Glasgow and I am really struggling to get my head around the schools. Could anyone help?

When do children go to school here?
In Scotland the school year starts in August. The oldest children are born in march and the youngest in February. This means that my lo would have started in august 2016 I think and he would have been one of the younger ones, birthday is in November. Is this the same here or will he be the older ones?

Also the schools seem to differ here with junior and middle and then upper schools.. I think? What age do these start end?
In Scotland it is primary school from primary 1 to 7 and then high school from 1st year to 6th year however 5th and 6th year is not compulsory.

Thanks for any insight. I asked my new health visitor but she wasn't much help.

Hi. Children start full time school the september after their 4th birthday. So september children are the oldest, august children are the youngest. Some schools are split into infants and juniors 4-7 7-11, some schools just run right through age 4-11. Children can go to school nursery or get 15 hours funding in a private nursery, the term after they turn 3.

ETA: Think ive worked your lo birthday out right. If he's 4 next november (2015) he will start full time school september 2015 and he'll be one of the oldest. He could start his funded nursery sessions from january 2015.
