Airport transfers with little ones....

We've just booked our first family holiday involving a flight. Just wondering what you do about getting to the airport, and the transfer at the other end, with respect to car seats? We are flying Ryanair so I imagine they charge extra for everything, would need buggy too. At the other end we have a taxi transfer in Majorca. Would I need to take my toddler seat and baby car seats with us?
Thanks for enlightening me.

Ryanair, as far as I remember, carry for free one piece of baby equipment for infants (under 2) either car seat or pushchair. After that you'd have to pay for any extra pieces of baby equipment, I think it's about 20. I'm not sure what I'd do about the taxi journey. Is it a long journey. Legally you're not required to have children in car seats in a taxi I think but I'd be kind of nervous if it was going to be a longer journey so I'd either take car seats or look into hiring them once I got there.

If you want them in car seats I would definitely try and take your own as I have heard some terrible stories about the state of car seats that people have hired abroad. You dont legally need one though so it depends how much you want them in one. If your going to be doing a lot of driving over there, hiring a car, then it would be worth it. We took ds to cyprus as a baby and had a coach transfer. We didnt take a seat. I did feel nervous but to he didnt have a seat anyway to use one, and he didnt when we went on a trip while there as they dont count under 2s in numbers for the coaches etc.

You can bring your carseats onto the plane with you. You will need to check policy but it can be done. I was just reading about it last week - I'll see if I can dig up the article!

We've travelled abroad a handful of time with DS, and with taxi transfers that we've booked ahead of our trip we've been able to request a car seat, which the companies have always been happy to provide free of charge.

You'll also be able to check your buggy into the hold of the plane for free. They take it from you at the gate as you board so you can use it in the airport.

We took r buggy free of charge and used it in airport and they took it of us at the aeroplane door. We ordered a carseat for the transfer to the hotel free of charge before we left. Getting to the airport we took our own carseat and the bus company kept it for us and brought it back on return journey.

We've never taken car seats abroad with us.
We're lucky that at our end of the journey we are only a couple of miles away from the airport so family drop us off and they have seats in their cars.
At the other end we are usually going from airport to hotel on the bus or in a taxi. We usually request a car seat for the youngest and I think every time they've provided one for us.
