Recurrent UTI in babies/toddlers

Hi, just wondering if anyone elses baby/toddler has recurrent UTI's and what investigation was carried out by the Dr/cause that was found and treatment given?

My daughter has now had 2 UTI's (possibly more that weren't confirmed due to Dr's saying she had a cold!!!)

The first one was 5 months ago when she was 15 months old, she's now had her second confirmed case at 20 months and it worries me that the Dr said that it will need further investigation because of her age, there's usually an underlying cause that they want to get to the bottom of. My daughter has already had an ultrasound which showed nothing so I am wondering what investigations they are likely to do next? I have antibiotics for my daughter for now and am waiting for the next step, whatever that may be.

I hate how ill she gets, it really worries me.

Aww sorry she has been so poorly. Poppy had 2 spells of sickness very close together, and then a third episode without sickness but with a very high temp. I managed to get a sample and it showed a urine infection and the Dr said it was possible that at least one of the other 2 sicknesses could have been caused by the same thing.

Poppy had antibiotics and so far (touch wood) hasn't had an issue with it again. Like you say, it's horrible how poorly they get, and I hope they manage to find out what is causing your LO to get them so much xx

Recurrent UTI in babies/toddlers

My daughter now 4 suffered for chronic UTI's starting at 13 months old. The first one was misdiagnosed and she spent 6 days in the hospital with severe kidney infection. She required iv antibiotics and temp of 106.

After the third infection a vcug or voiding test was done to she if she had kidney reflux. The doctor said after the second infection in a six month period this was standard. She did not have anything wrong (just a huge bladder the doctor was amazed), however continued to have chronic infections. Antibotics would clear them only to have them return in a week.

When she was 18 months old we finally decided to use to low dose antibiotic to prevent them. This did work while she was on it however when we discontinued use after 6 months they returned. The urologist says she has a voiding disfunction (meaning she just holds it).

I decided to try a natural remedy after discussing it w/urologist and pediatrician. I was very skeptical, but I can say she has only had one UTI in 2years since using this.

I know it is very worrisome and frusterating when you little one is sick, but the VCUG or void test was not really bad. If it is kidney reflux most will outgrow it and they will treat it with low dose antibiotic.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I ended up taking her to A&E with her last infection because of her temp getting so high and couldn't keep it down. I'm now waiting for blood tests to be taken on her. Thankfully she's been OK since the last infection.

Will look into the void test, I'll ask my Dr about it.
