Keeping a 15 month old amused on a flight - ideas?

We're going to be taking Adam to Norway in December (family occasion) and I am nervous about keeping him occupied (and quiet would be a bonus) during the flight, cooped up sitting on our laps in cattle class (Ryanair). Fortunately the flights are 2 hours each way only but the planes are pretty small with not much aisle space.

Any ideas? I feel anxious about it already and it's 5 weeks away.

Lots of food, stickers, water bottles or small boxes to open up. My daughter kept quiet for a 2 hour flight to France by playing with an empty bottle of water! We also gave her a purse with cards and pictures to take out of the purse, put back in, etc. She loved that! Little cars as well to play with on the trays could work a treat. Oh, and my daughter was kept entertained for ages around the same age on a plane with a slinky.

Hiya

I did a 9 hour flight in September with Chloe she was 17 months - she was as good as gold, I dreaded and expected the worse but when we got off the plane everyone was saying they didn't even know there was a baby on there! So think the worst and it can only be better lol.

I took for Chloe [probably too much]

Snacks [raisins etc]
Colouring Book and Crayons
Lots of little books
Her Doll
Some little fifi and ITNG characters
Crayola Colour Wonders pack
etc etc

All the above was brand new, someone gave me that tip, take all things that they have not seen/played with before and it will keep them entertained.

Good luck x

great ideas, thanks I'll pick up some new things, as well as some of his favourite items he's not usually allowed to play with - he LOVES messing with my purse and my camera. and food. actually he is usually fascinated by videos of himself that I have on my phone, maybe I'll take a load more and he'll sit and watch them. I'm hoping he'll be tired and want to sit with a book (flight is at 10.30am and he ALWAYS naps then).

ooooh my little girl loves watching videos ive taken on my mobile too, one of her faves is her big sister singing, she also loves watching a vid of our kitten being a bit nutty lol

i was also going to say about does the flight fall within nap times? i took my first daughter to turkey when she was nearly 6 months old, and she slept the whole flight there and back, one lady was so impressed with her she asked if she could have a cuddle with her lol

yes, I was relieved when I realised the outward flight coincided with his sleepy time, it's not the case on the way home though! also, with both we have over an hour in the car beforehand and he usually sleeps in the car. maybe I'll sit in the back with him and keep him awake.

Hi, we took our LO to Norway when she was 14 months old, not the longests of flights but we felt it! Going was ok, but on the way back she was over tired so became really ratty and was crying towards the end. So my advice would be to let him sleep beforehand, saying that, if you think he would sleep on the plane that'd obviously be better!

I took a bag of small toys that she'd never seen before, soft toys that made noises, wind up things, small books, random small objects etc. But next time I'll definitely be taking the laptop with some children's shows on it, but back then she wasn't really in to TV.

Good luck, and hope you enjoy yourselves.

thank you I think if we are to be flying regularly we might get a mini DVD player (I'm not taking my laptop on this trip as we are managing on hand luggage alone and it's too heavy). he LOVES Charlie & Lola and will sit completely rapt the whole way through an episode, so I did an experiment and recorded a clip from a You Tube video on my iPhone, and while the quality wasn't great it was ok. I don't think my battery will last if we are watching videos the whole time but it might keep him amused for a short while.

I'm dreading delays - so many times I have been stuck at Torp, usually because of bad weather.
