Wet eye - eye infection?

For the last two days Matilda has had one runny eye – just clear like a tear, no redness and she has not been rubbing it but her eyelashes on that eye are always wet and she always has a tear below her eye.

Could this be the start of an eye infection?
Has anyone else’s child had this and gone on to develop one?

To be honest the only reason I’m worrying (I know eye infections are quickly treatable), is because I started a new job today so the last thing I need is for her to be off nursery.

Thanks ladies

Most nurseries accept them with conjunctivitis now, it's in the NHS recommendations to anyway.

Has she had a cold or anything? I'd just try to keep it clean (wipe each eye with boiled water) and keep an eye on it. My son had conjunctivitis practically all winter last year and they were quite hestitant to prescribe anything. I think with the kind of conjunctivitis that responds to antibiotics, it's really obviously infected. My son's were really red and gunky.

Fingers crossed it clears up soon!
