Look at your local council website or directgov website. They will show you all the places to look for info.
You have to register not sure dates etc, my LO will be starting not this sept but next so I have to apply by jan 2012 if that makes sense?

Do you have any idea of schools you like? You can look on ofsted for reports etc

Hope I helped a tiny bit, sorry if I made no sense xx

Hi yeah that makes sense mine will be starting the same time as you, I have a school in mins only problem is, we have just sold our house and have had our offer accepted on a new one which is now chain but we are waiting for our buyer to stop messing around so we can get things moving as our current house is not in the same town as our new one so I need to register my son at the local school for the new house but from looking on the gov wbpebsite I can't do that until we have a letter off the solicitor confirming an exchange of contract and moving date so I am hoping things move quickly as it took us 4 months to buy and move into our current house and we dint even have a place to sell then thanks for your advice at least I now no a rough deadline to get him registered x

for a primary school place you dont apply to the school direct any more, you have to do it via the education dept in your area, we had to specify our three preferred schools then we had to wait to hear which we had beeon offered a place at, think most places you apply by end Jan, hear the outcome in May then have a month or two to appeal the decision if you didnt like it, if you apply later than the deadline then they dont even consider the application until the first results have come out. Best place to look it the local councils website and call the education dept listed on there
