I think Lily may have asthma, but again, my GP won't diagnose until older.

She gets an awful wheezy chest whenever she has a cold. She is poorly at the moment and has the blue inhaler, dextamethosone steroid and an anti biotic.

Although my GP did say that when the wheeze is on the inhale and exhale then that points to viral- but if it's just on the exhale then that points to asthma. Lily wheezes on both, so hoping that it is just a viral induced wheeze and not asthma. Neither me or my husband have asthma, but he does get hayfever and I get eczema, which can increase Lily's chances apparently.

What worries me is that it's recurring. As soon as she gets as much as a runny nose her chest gets wheezy and she gets an awful croupy cough.

this has been an interesting read. I have had concerns about my LO for a long time regarding asthma. She was hospitalised with bronchiolitis at about 7 months old and since then has had recurrent chest infections, everytime she gets any sort of illness it goes strait to her chest and she gets an aweful wheeze and cough. The last doctor i had her to on an emergency apointment said listening to her and with her history it sounds like asthma, and she wouldnt be surprised if she developed worse. but she hasnt been diagnosed. It is mainly when she gets ill and i dont know if this could be asthma or if her lungs are just damaged form all the infections and bronchiolitis so this is how they react??

Hi, emzi im sure the atrovent is not a preventer.... At my work (children's a and e ) we use that in acute wheeze or give it a try to see if it helps younger children with bronchiolitis..
