Balance bikes

Does anyone know if you can get balance bikes that convert into proper bikes?

I know it's a long way off but we are thinking about getting a balance bike for Esther for birthday or Christmas. We were hoping she'd be able to use Daniels but its just died!!!

We're also trying to decide if a wooden one is better and if proper tyres or solid tyres are better. We want it to last for as long as possible.

Thanks.

Hi there!

We've just got Tom a balance bike for christmas, we went for this one:

and he LOVES it! He's so proud of it lol!

I did a lot of research on them before getting this one and never came across one that converts in to a pedal bike. The idea would be great but I wonder if the sizing would be all funny and the fact that most balance bikes don't come with a brake may be a problem!

We went for this one because we live in the countryside so the susp would be good, we've also bought a brake for it.

I think the best one with a brake is the Isla bike Rothan.

With regards to wooden ones, we tried a few out in the shops, including the likeabikes version, and found that the steering was very limited, due to the padding used to stop the wood rubbing together. We've nicknamed them the 'staight line bikes'!
