Is this normal behaviour?

I didn't give it a second thought til OH mentioned that he was worried that Maria is getting too overwhelmed or overstimulated as she often hides (there's a gap under the kitchen worktop where a dishwasher used to be and she sits under there) or pulls a blanket or something over her head and sits in silence for 5-10 minutes.

Though I guess thats why OH is concerned, as it is totally the opposite of Maria's normal behaviour.

My DD sometimes runs and stands in the corner of a room for a few minutes. Not sure why though

Do you think she may be becoming aware of her bowel movements ?? Sometimes when babies are aware of pooping they find a nice quiet place to sit or stand. Both my sons started doing this at about 9-10 months and usually they were trying to poop

No its not pooping, she likes to squat near us and grunt when she does that

She only has one nap a day now so maybe she is just needing a bit extra quiet time - that makes sense.

I don't think there is such a thing as "normal" behaviour where toddlers are concerned

E likes to sit on her reading mat an go through books when she wants to be quiet, or she sits under the table with one toy just staring at it...

I'd say that if it is over stimulation, then she's got good coping strategies for it. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about!
