I would hate that, as a non smoker I see no reason for my children to be around it, or even in a house that smelt that bad.

I have had numerous fallouts with family members as majority smoke, but have had it all out and they understand how I feel, so if they know I'm going round they make sure it doesn't smell.

Is it still classed as passive smoking if its that bad?

You poor thing, I don't blame you at all! My partner and I are non smokers and so I know we wouldn't be able to stand it if we had our son coming home from his grandparents stinking of stale smoke either. I wouldn't want him over here (I know it's his grandparents but urgh!) and would ask them if they would consider smoking outside. I know things aren't that black and white but that's how I'd feel regardless

To be honest, I'm surprised he reeks that much of smoke if she's smoking outside, I would be wondering if maybe she is having a couple inside anyway? Sure people can smell of cigarettes if they've been in a house where people smoke, if it's lingering, but I wouldn't think he would be overpoweringly smelly if nobody was smoking inside while he was there.

I don't let my kids go to houses where people smoke. Period. Luckily, I only know two people that smoke, and they both live in Alberta.

I wouldn't let my kid go to a house like that at all. To me there's no real difference if she's actually smoking in front of him or not if he comes home stinking that bad. The chemicals are in the smoke, so if you can smell it, they are there. I shudder at the thought! That being said, what you said was the least that I'd be saying. Just because your ok with it doesn't mean that it should excuse the whole issue. But, then again, I'm one of those annoying people who like to remind smokers that it really is not a good habit to have. And yes, I did smoke, heavily for 10 years.

I don't think you were out of order. I wouldn't even have let him go in the first place. If it's bad enough that it's on his clothes, it'll be getting onto his skin and into his lungs.

aw its awful isn't it, to say something or not!! well done for saying something though it may make them think more about the smell in the future

My DD goes to her nannas very occasionally and when she comes back she stinks of cigarettes. I know that she does not smoke around her but I think that it lingers in the house. She hardly ever goes so its not too much of a problem. She went on Sunday as I have been ill and my OH had to work and my mum was away for the weekend (she would normally look after her) I had to send her to MIL's. When OH picked her up and brought her home she stunk of cigs!! and her changing bag and her doll that she took with her. So had to wash everything. I didnt' say anything but have mentioned it to my OH in the past and his reply is usually well she doesn't smoke in the house whilst DD is there! Its always a touchy subject and smokers generally think that you are overracting! x

Hi Chic....she always smokes in the house !! Its only when Miller is there she doesnt. BUt she doesnt understand she has smoked in the house for 40 years ....so of course the house smells even if she isnt smoking in it whilst there !

You'd be amazed how stroing the smell is ....even if we have only been there an hour !x
