I have had some brilliant advice on here today so i'm back for more.... please xxx

hi everyone. Please don't think i've gone crazy when i ask you this but.... I have an 18 month old daughter and when she goes to sleep at night she is in her cot with a fitted sheet on the matress, a pillow and she wears her bedclothes and a sleeping bag. I know for a fact she would sleep better if she had a duvet and a cuddly teddy bear to snuggle to but im terrified that she will suffocate on the duvet or teddy bear am I being silly?? She is going through a phase at the moment where she will go down to sleep in her cot but then an hour later shes wide awake again and im almost certain its because shes sleeping in a bare cot. She does have a duvet and I tried her with it one night and she looked sooo cozy but i didnt sleep a wink because i was so worried. I didnt tuck it in only at the bottom ( because it was so long ) so i just tucked it under the matress and left it free at the sides so if she did wriggle under the covers she still had gaps at the side. Not that she could wriggle under because she was at the bottom of the cot anyway. And what about a teddy bear? do any of you have children of the same age that like to snuggle to something? Im driving myself mad!!!! Any advice or opinions would be appreciated xx xx

Im pretty sure at her age its safe.. my cousins baby has had a baby duvet (Suitable from 12months+) since she was 6 months and is now 2 years old and has been fine and my daughter who is nearly 2 month has a few teddy's in her cot and she just loves cuddling them and when she's asleep she moves that much they end up on the other side of the cot so there's no danger really.. my little girl hates sleeping bags and prefers duvets but i don't give her a duvet i give her a fluffy blanket which is about the same size as a baby duvet but its a lot thinner so if she does wriggle her self under she'll still be ok

i think its only natural for mothers to worry about things like this so nobody is going to think you're silly

My son had a teddyy from the age of 18 months & he loves it! He's also had a duvet from 16 months as my house gets cold even with the heating on & i've never had any trouble hun. I'm sure your LO will be fine .. She's at the age now where, if she did go under the covers, she would come out if she was uncomfy xx

My LO had a duvet from 17 months and has always been absolutely fine. Same for soft toys in bed. It started with Iggle Piggle.... now we have 25 cuddly toys stuffed down the side of the bed!!!

Aaww thankyou ladies, I think i'm going to try her with a duvet and teddy bear tomorrow. Im almost certain that she will sleep better with them, I just worry incase she ends up under the duvet or with the teddy over her face. My mum keeps on saying that shes strong enough to wriggle out of the duvet or move the teddy bear anyway if shes not happy and I know shes right but im such a stresser. Thanks again xxx

your not silly! My little one is 14 months and has a duvet and a teddy! She actually drinks her bottle in bed and then pulls the duvet over her head to go to sleep, if i remove it she just pulls it back and wont go to sleep unless its there! I have to pull it down after shes asleep! Her duvet is only thin and light and she has no problem rolling around with it and getting out!

Not silly at all. But your lo should be fine.

Mine had them from 8months and 12 months and while they were in a cot i don't remember ever seeing them under the duvet. My eldest now pulls it over his head on purpose but as he's 4 1/2 i don't worry about him.

you're not alone! i feel exactly the same! I was going to get LO a duvet before xmas (when she was 14months) when it was really cold and convinced myself it would all be ok but then I chickened out and bought a larger sleeping bag instead... i know i am being overly paranoid... i really need to stop making excuses and just get a duvet....maybe a nice night garden one seeing as she is now obsessed with it!
