My sick baby

Benjamin is 14 months old. For the last 5 days, he has been battling a brutal cough, congestion, runny nose, and just feeling miserable.

I took him to the pediatrician's today, and he was diagnosed with an ear infection. His doctor prescribed Amoxicillan and instructed him to take 1/2 teaspoon of Robitussin for the cough. He did not hear any wheezing.

Two days ago, Ben threw up from coughing so hard. This morning, he threw up on his high chair chair. Tonight he threw up again from all of the mucus.

I gave him a bath and used the Johnsons and Johnson's Soothing Vapor Bath in the tub. This seem to calm him down and help with some of the congestion. I also have the vaporizer running.

He just seems SO miserable...he has barely eaten in two days, and I'm worried. Am I over-reacting? Is the vomiting normal because of the mucus?

Are you sure you're not talking about my sick baby? My LO is the exact same right now. Awful coughing, horrible congestion, gagging and throwing up from the mucous, won't eat anything solid, sleeping awful and just whining.

Here's what I have been doing:

Sucking out his nose with the nasal aspirator and then putting saline drops in it.
Bathing him in the vapor bath
Humidifier in his room
Vicks on his chest, neck, and FEET. Put it on his feet and then socks on right away! I swear it works (sounds weird, but does). Some friends told me about it a long time ago and I remembered and tried it and it was amazing. He literally stops coughing within a few minutes.

Sleeping on his side also works well for stopping the cough and helping the mucous to not pool in his throat.

The throwing up is totally normal, it just becomes too thick when it gets coughed up and up it comes.

We have been giving him his toddler milk so he gets the nutrients and lots of water and then stuff like applesauce or yogurt if he will take it.

Hang in there!! Hopefully your DS and my DS will be better soon!

Also, I am not sure what OTC pain reliever you are giving him, if any, but motrin works a lot better than tylenol in my experience for pain and it lasts 6-8 hours. His dr recommended it when LO had his ear infection.

Wow Breezy! Thank you SO much! This is EXACTLY my life right now! We have been doing everything you've been doing with your little guy...praying this passes soon.

Ben fell asleep this afternoon at 1:30...it's now 5:30 here and he's still asleep. My mom told me to let him sleep b/c he needs it. I really hope he wakes up feeling a bit better.
