Refusing to sleep in the car

For the past month Evie has reused to sleep in the car

Every Tuesday her toddler group finishes at 12:15 and she usually goes straight to sleep in the car but she just cries now

Also, we went to visit relatives who live 1.5 hours away and we started our journey at Evie's nap time so she would sleep in the car but she just kept crying so we turned back and didn't go

Any help?

We leave toddler groups early to get home on time for a quick lunch and into cot for nap as my LO refuses to sleep in the car except on very long journeys and will then wake as soon as we stop meaning she hasn't had enough sleep and is grumpy. I am also putting off a long journey to visit SIL as it's 4hours away and I know LO will get overtired and scream most of the way there/back!

neither of my kids sleep in the car. i generally try to time things so that we are home in time for his nap, but to be honest I can't always dictate my whole life around when he sleeps, so sometimes he just has his sleep a little later than usual- doesn't really create any issues, we just deal with it.

we even drove all the way around ireland, he slept probably twice the whole week in the car (obviously slept in a bed at night!) and it was no big issue.

this almost entirely, we are very laid back and if she wants to sleep she sleeps, some days she will not sleep until bed time but where we are makes no difference as we have always just got on with stuff so she will sleep in a car seat, in my arms or on the washing line she does not care.

personally, i'd much prefer my LO to refuuse to sleep in the car then in bed on a night (which he does grrrr) so i wouldn't actually mind. Does she need a nap when she isn't sleeping in the car? Or would she be okay to go through to bedtime? X x

Both of these too

Madeline will generally drop off to sleep in the car if it is around the time she sleeps. Other days she sits quietly, and others she kicks off about going in the car seat. In those cases, I sing, talk, play games with her (How does a cat go? How does a dog go?) etc. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid she just has to get on with crying until we get to our destination, or she gives it up. She's crying out of anger or the fact she doesn't want to be there, not through pain or fear. I wouldn't turn back. She's at an age now where she is learning to become more manipulative, and finding out that if she does something the consequences will be x.

Ruby has to be really really really tired to sleep in the car now. it being naptime isn't enough, it needs to be right at the end of the day and then we don't want her to sleep anyway!!

It doesn't get better! My LO was like this as a newborn and still refuses at 17months. Or she gives in but wakes the second the car stops

Tom used to always fall asleep in the car around nap time - I planned my day around it. But at 23ish months he suddenly stopped for a couple of weeks and it totally through the day out. Now he sometimes goes to sleep on the way back from groups but other times fights it and then doesn't have a sleep at all.

He also doesn't sleep on long journeys anymore unless he's totally knackered. We had to do a long trip at the weekend and DH ended up sitting in the back to keep him entertained cos he just didn't drop off.
