Weeing outside.....

....not something I want to encourage buuuut....

I'm potty training my little boy. He's been dry at home for 2 days now but when we go out I'm not pressurising him and putting a pull up nappy on him. He's starting to hold his wees when out and done a wee in a toilet whilst out which has been great.

Today we were out I didn't take the travel potty (he said he didn't like it) and he said he wanted to go home for a wee. There was no toilet near and home was 15 mins away so I let him wee in the hedge. He was confused at first and it wasn't easy to manoeuvre but he doesn't seem to want to wee in his nappy anymore so I didn't want to encourage him too. He did a wee in the hedge and we of course did the "wee wee dance" afterwards as I had no stickers on me.

So is weeing outside okay in this situation?

I haven't done it but I think it's OK. As you say, not something you want to necessarily encourage but better to go in the hedge if you get caught short than going in his pants (once he's out of nappies). That's great that he doesn't want to go in the nappy by the way, sounds like he is doing so well!

Sorry hun but I think it's a. disgusting and b. pretty sure it isn't even legal? Not with adults anyway. We've been through potty training ourselves, went out every single day, all day. 40 minute bus journeys, long walks, the lot. There was never a time I had him urinate in public. I've seen little boys being made to and the look of shame on their little faces says it all. If you don't want to encourage it, don't tell him to do it. Just wondering by the way, I see you've a little miss too, would you encourage her to do the same at your son's age? Not a trick question, just curious

Personally I'd be fine with it as long as it was away from the street. When you've gotta go you've gotta go.

I don't think it's disgusting, it's disgusting if they're 7 and fully 'trained'. Any LO, male or female might need to go if there is no public toilets around. I think when they're just learning, letting them go behind a tree (not like in public view!) is fine.

For a while when my LO was just getting the hand of things, I would get him to wee in a bottle as it saved the mess.

not ideal but better than wetting pants. I don't agree with pp who said it's disgusting. dogs wee in the bushes too, we don't get dog owners collect dogs wee in potties.

As I said, it wasn't something I was overly happy with but making him wee in his nappy would have upset him more. It wasn't in public as such, we were out for a walk at a local nature park and having a picnic. No other people were around. I even took him behind a hedge just in case a dog walker passed (though no one did). If I was in the same situation with my little girl I guess I would have done the same. Way out of view of anybody of course. I don't want my children's bits and bobs on show to the world.

Did you always have a potty with you in case you were no where near a toilet?

Thanks P!! Today he did his first poo on the potty with no help as well! Did it all of his own accord! He's aLeo getting the hang of pants. I can't believe he's holding his wees out of the house already. I totally did not expect it. As you can tell by our Al Fresco wee today!

I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all!!! He's just little! And good for him for not wanting to wee in his nappy. I would have done exactly the same thing, boy or girl
