Does anyone put their LO to bed early if they do not sleep in the day for long?

Hi there,

Just wanted a bit of advice regarding my 13 month old who's night times have been severely disrupted following her teething a few weeks ago. A previous lovely STTN baby, has turned into 3 night wakings sometimes more, that get gradually worse if she is left to cry (I have to go in straight away to settle her back to sleep, which I prefer anyway).
She is at nursery 3 days a week and obviously with the hustle and bustle can go whole days sometimes where she has slept for 2 x 30 minutes and sometimes just 1 nap of 30 minutes!!!
What is the cut off for a super early bedtime like 5.30pm or 6pm? Is it when she hasnt napped for at least a couple of hours or the time betweeen last nap and bedtime?
Any help would be really gratefully received!!

When Ivy hasn't napped or had a really early and short nap she is in bed by half 5! It only happens once or twice a week but I definitely enjoy it

Does Ivy sleep better if she goes down earlier?

She sleeps the same! Sometimes she wakes up like half an hour earlier but not a huge amount of difference. Her bedtime does vary a lot though, anytime between half 5 and half 8 but I find she is more restless if she is overtired and goes to bed too late.

Thanks for this, I think this is Ruby's problem. She will toss and turn and I think is overtired which leads to 3+ night wakings Im thinking im probably going to try this tonight if she hasnt slept for long x

Yeah its definitely worth a try, being overtired is a killer. Plus, it is so bloody nice to emerge from a sleeping toddler's room knowing its only half 5 and you still have the whole evening ahead of you!

Earl's a lot older but we've always done the same. For every nap missed we put him to bed 30 mins earlier. So for example, when he was your LO's age he had 2 naps per day, so instead of 7, he'd be in bed at 6pm if he'd missed any. Nowadays he will have 1 nap, max of 2 hours, 3 or 4 days per week, so if he doesn't sleep in the day we'll aim for 6.30 to be heading up for a story, but on a nap day, 7pm.

poppy is the same with nursery sleeps, she is there 4 days a week now and only has one 30-40min sleep a day.
if this is after 1pm, she can usually just about make it to 6.30-7pm for bed, but if she has slept before 1pm, we let her snooze in the buggy and take the long way home. we walk so it's about 20mins. this is usually enough to keep her going until bedtime then. we used to drive to pick her up but it only took 5 mins to get home so just as we got to our street she'd have dropped off and be mega grizzly when we woke her.

doesn't seem to effect her sleep too much but when i'm off on a friday she has a 3hour sleep in the morning to catch up from the week!
