Thanks everyone so heres how the first night went:

Bedtime: 6.50pm- CIO until 8.10pm and fell asleep (checked on her 4 times)
Wake up 1- 1.45am- CIO for 12 minutes then settled for 5, cried again until 3.30am (checked on her 3 times)
Wake up 2- 4.00am- CIO for 20 minutes
Wake up 3- 6.30am- Went in to get her up for the day, she was so tired she fell asleep in my arms.
At Nursery today and happily went off to play no problems....here's to night two hopefully not as soul destroying as tonight and me and my OH have been tearing our hair out all night.

Well done for sticking to your guns! And that's the hard bit out of the way - getting started, dreading it & actually doing it for the whole first night are the worst bits IMO. Now you know you CAN do it & lo CAN settle herself it gets easier (even if the crying doesn't stop straight away)

I decided to stop BFing during the night when DS was about 7 months. I tried to replace with water which he wouldn't have. We had 3 or 4 nights that were really hard going but then he settled for a long time just getting up for one feed during the night.

I very recent tip I was given was to feed, then brush his teeth so he is 100% awake when you put him down. I tried it one night last week but it failed and I tried it again last night and he slept 8-7 which must only be the 2nd or 3rd time hes done that.

Hi All,
She went to bed at 6.50pm, not asleep but dozy.
As soon as her put her down she kicked her covers off and flipped over watching me go out the door, she cried for about 30 seconds and that was it.
2 hours 20 in and fingers crossed going ok, just bracing myself for another 2am listening to whitney on my ipod!!!! Got to remember we can do this, we have done one night!!!
