No real advice, sorry. Just to say that when my LO was poorly a month or so ago, I took him to the doctor who said that he had glue ear. I asked what this was and if it would cause problems and he said that about 2/3 children have it and it normally just clears on its own. He never mentioned anything about vents. As far as I can tell, it has never really bothered LO although he does get a lot of ear wax.
My friends LO had grommets fitted due to recurrent infections that made her very poorly and miserable. They havent worked as well as she would have liked and still get infections but theyre less severe when she gets them. The specialists have told her mum to stop smoking as thats one of the main risk increaser for glue ear.
My DD had ear infections constantly for about 4 months. Went to a specialist who gave us the option of constant low dose antibiotics or the grommets. We had a hearing test done and realised it was definitely affecting her hearing, even after a round of antibiotics, so we went with the grommets. I don't think she's been on antibiotics since, and it's coming up to 6 months now. For us it was definitely worth it.
