Turning one - anyone else with no party?

My son is turning 1 tomorrow! No more little baby!

We are going to in laws' for dinner tomorrow, like every Friday. and of course they've have a cake for him. But I have no real special plans for him other than getting him a balloon cuz he loves those. I thought maybe the zoo but it's supposed to be cold tomorrow. It's not like he has any friends and I didn't really make any mommy friends this year.

I feel like a bad mom! Did anyone else not actually throw a birthday party for their 1 year old? All of DH's friends threw huge partys with 30+ kids and personalized loot bags and centerpieces, and I'm like "no, I don't need this crap."

When my LO's turned 1 we had a cake, balloons, presents and went out for the day but they're too little to care about a party - save all that for when they can appreciate it.

If you feel like your LO is missing out I would add up all that you would spend on invitations, party clothes, food, ect and put it in their bank account

lol I guess I feel bad cuz I'm not even going to make him a cake. He's going to get one, I guess. just not from me. Maybe I should get him a present.

He doesn't like being in the stroller so I almost feel like it's not really for him if I take him to the zoo cuz he always looks like "how much longer are you going to make me sit here and look at hairy things?".

We had family round, but didn't do anything with "baby" friends. I had been to my best friends 2year olds birthday party a mth before & was traumatised by all the crying, screaming & tantruming

Will do friend things when she's old enough to appreciate it

We didn't do anything special for Tom's 1st birthday - my in laws got him a cake and we were staying with them overnight so they all saw him but that was it. I didn't see the point of spending loads of money on a party he was never going to remember and probably be freaked out by.

For his 2nd birthday we took grandparents and friends with a little boy the same age on a steam train ride with Santa (his birthday's at Christmas) and he just about coped with that. Santa was a bit too much for him and we had tears but overall it worked well.

I'm planning to do a party for his 3rd birthday but probably quite low key because he gets thrown easily by things being different and I don't want him to spend his birthday crying.

We didn't have a party, we put balloons and a banner up, he had cake etc but we just took him to the farm for the day. Thinking about taking him zoo this year, I do have a few Mummy friends and my sister and her kids etc but not enough to warrant a birthday party tbh x

Why don't you opt to have the IL's and your own family round at yours instead? That way it will feel like a party and your family don't miss out.

For our son's first AND second b-day, we didn't throw any ridiculous party, with dozens of people. We got him some toys, and of course b-day cake. It's more special for us to have his birthday at home....with his family

The kids won't remember anyways..i honestly wouldn't of cared either way seeing pics of me when i was little with a huge party, or just home with my family. I'd also rather not be spending a ton of money on them either. There's other things we can focus our finances on.

We only had family round on my girls 1st birthdays, didnt do the whole baby friends etc etc my eldest daughter 1st 2nd and 3rd birthday close family round is all we did. My youngest daughters 2nd birthday we opted for the beach and a family meal, for her 3rd birthday though she is having a party at a soft play centre mainly because she is more understanding about parties and birthdays etc now .....having an older sister who is having a birthday and party soon has fuelled that tee hee.

Dont feel bad, i think some people go over the top and there just isnt any need trust me when they get older they want parties every year so whilst you can get away with it dont LOL xxx
