How to know when ready for potty training?

My MIL has been going on about potty training for months and I've always dismissed the suggestion up until now (LO's only just 18 months), but I'm starting to wonder if he's nearing being ready but I haven't a clue really how to tell or how to go about potty training.

Over the last month or so LO has started to go a good 3 hours at times without weeing. I'll often go to change his nappy during the day and find it completley dry which got me thinking that perhaps a few months down the line we'd start thinking about training. Then the other day I realised that he tries to take his nappy off before he wees, as if he doesn't like weeing in the nappy anymore so maybe I should starting thinking about training him soon. How will I know when he's ready and how on earth do you go about potty training?!!! Also he's not talking much yet so is it even feasible before he can say that he needs a wee/poo?

Sorry, I don't have an input as I don't remember details of potty training my eldest and would like to know too!

i havnt started yet but my lo asks to go to the potty or if he sees a toilet he will tell me he wants a wee. at nursery he sometimes goes on the big toilet too. I think i will give it another month then 'try' . i will ask if he wants a wee every 2 hours and take him to the toilet before bed, in a morning, mealtimes etc and see how we go?!

no idea if its the right way tho!
