3yo birthday - Leapster or leappad explorer?

I'm looking to get Emma the leapster or leadpad explorer for her birthday - both take the same games so it's just which would be the better buy - the leappad seems to do more but I don't want it to be too old for her.

Also both seem to be really bad for batteries.

Can anyone whose LO has either of these advise?

Thank you

We have the leapster I think, the cheaper one ? It was an xmas present for DS and I have just literally changed to the 3rd set of batteries. We buy the duracell extra so I guess it wouldn't last to long with the cheaper ones.

My son loves it, we only have dora game and the free download ones at the moment but will get some more for his birthday. He wasn't ready for it at xmas and most of the games are 4+ some of the spelling games are beyond him.

My only complaint is that I think the game choices are poor. No peppa pig, thomas tank etc. They seem to be all disney games which he isn't into yet.

We got Imogen the Leappad and she just adores it. We do have to change the batteries a lot, but we use rechargeable ones, so it's no problem. And it means I get to use the iPad again

Oh, and she loves the videos you can get for it, will sit and watch for hours.
