The Dreaded Nappy Change!

Urgh! Why does the nappy changing have to be so flipping hard!? In the 18 months of LO's life, I think we've had maybe 2 months where changing his nappy was easy. The rest of the time he's either running away with a poop-covered bottom, or screaming his head off and flailing around. I'm pretty good at staying calm and being patient, but there are times when I just feel totally exasperated and I can be a little short with LO. I know it's normal, but can any of you ladies think of any other tricks I could try?

I've tried everything I can think of: counting, singing, playing little games, bringing out special nappy-time-only toys, using his favourite toys, books, getting OH to help, I've even tried switching on the TV just to keep his attention for 2 minutes. But nothing works to keep him settled whilst I change his nappy.

It takes around 30 minutes to change his nappy at the moment, which just seems absurd! Any tips ladies??

There have been moments when I've found myself literally lying on the floor, wipe in hand, watching as my boy skips off down the hallway nappy-less, laughing at me, only to then pee on the floor and look at me as if it were my fault that his feet are now wet.

Funny now, but not so funny at the time!

Have you tried doing it standing?
Lucas has only really been through one phase of being really awkward to change his nappy, and I took to holding him up with one hand and wiping with the other. He still tried to run off but he definitely wasn't going anywhere

Have you tried food? We tempted Alex with some fruit, a biscuit, whatever he could hold and nibble at

I used to put the TV on during nappy changes and it worked amazingly well for a little while, but if I try it now LO just tries to get up and get closer to the TV, and gets even more annoyed when I try to stop him. I was gutted when that trick stopped working! I might try on the phone though...maybe LO will find it interesting again if its on a different kind of screen? Thanks!
