We have a mini library! We've read to our son from birth and he memorises loads of his books. He joins in and finishes sentences. It fascinates me and I love it!

I think it's nice for them to have the familiarity of books they know but also adding new books never hurts

My son has an amazing vocabulary, he's 20 months old and I just love his language development

I would of said it looks like she has a photographic memory but as the other ladies have responded saying its normal possibly not.

Not much help, we are still at the stage where she hits me with books rather than reading haha

Yeah, Aisling does this too, it's very funny, especially when she "performs" the books with all the facial expressions etc! To be honest she still has her favourites and I don't get to go to the library much so she gets lots of the same books (she does have loads) and she's happy

Little sponges!

Think will do as some of the posts have mentioned- read things she knows and add on to this. I wasnt sure if it was right to stick to the books that she had memorised because I thought it was too much for her little brain but think i'll let her have her time with them and continue to expand.

The library is great! Thomas has a lot of books at home that he is extremely familiar with and then we go to the library every three weeks and he is allowed to get out six books on his ticket. He then usually likes to read them over and over again for the first week or so and then will start returning more to his old favourites. I let him choose what he wants to read so he always has the choice of a very familiar book or a library book.

Not sure what the problem with this is? Why would you need to "do" anything? Abby has done this from about 15 months and we just let her. It never occurred to me there should be something done about it

Daisy does this too. Hairy Maclary is her current favourite for reciting.

If we buy a new book or bring one home from the library and Rowan takes to it, she insists on having it read to her again and again until she's memorised at least part of it. At the moment it's 'The Highway Rat': Daddy had to read it to her twice as her staying-up bedtime story, then Mummy read it three times as her going-to-bed bedtime story, and then she wanted it again before breakfast! About half Rowan's conversation now consists of fragments of text memorised from books: last night when we saw the full moon, she remarked "Out came the moon, it was bright and round; a terrible shadow fell on to the ground!"

Like I said its not a problem at all. Im just interested in my LO's development and try to be proactive with her interests. I wanted to know how best to approach this development too.
