Potty Training With OUT the Toddler Potty

I bought one of those easy to use toddler potties for Otter ages ago. He never has fit it. My big little man has always been too big for it. He's even too big to use the potty insert on an adult toilet. So, he has to use the adult seat and just carefully hold himself there.

It seems most people I've seen that have good luck with potty training use those portable potties. They put them in the kid's room at night and out in the play area during the day.

Anyone had really great success without using a potty seat of any kind??

My friend's daughter is 2 yrs 10 months & she uses the toilet without a seat. She was potty trained at 13 months. Her mother never bought a seat or a potty.

We will not use a potty when we start proper potty training. We're using a toilet seat for boys. Omar is dry at night & he wakes up when he needs to pee. We co-sleep, so when we he will go out of nappies at night, we will take him to the toilet to pee if he wakes up at night.

we used a potty chair thing and a portal potty adapter. My little girl barely fit on the potty chair thing and toilet seat adapter was just big enough (barely though).

I got this for me & OHs bathroom, http://www.buybuybaby.com/product.as...78505&RN=7377&
and now LO uses it in her bathroom. It's much bigger than the normal adapter seat. I got rid of the adapter thing because she was too big for it.

We don't use a potty. We bought a special toilet seat from B&Q which has a normal seat but also a smaller one hidden inside the lid... it's great!!!

We also taught Tom to wee outside by holing him and lifting his legs up, he then holds his willy down. We're now in the process of teaching him to wee standing up without getting his shoes wet!

I've heard those are good and have thought about one. Now I'm thinking even harder about it.

We actually have one of those I bought when I was pg with Otter. DH hated it and took it off -- he refuses to put it back on. He doesn't think the adult part of it is big enough for his big a$$. Maybe I should just insist it has to go one ONE of the 2 main floor toilets!

It has a plastic thing to keep the pee from going out

It's similar to this one

Hmmm... So far we haven't had those problems. FX we keep that up. And unfortunately, Otter's big bum is too big for those toddler seats anyway!

Aw bless him

Omar is average but he looks too big for his seat, but I can't risk not using it, he likes to hold his thing up & see the pee going everywhere

At least the plastic thing keeps it Restricted & in place

If he is able to get himself on the toilet by himself and hold himself up there then there really isn't a need for a toddler seat. Most all of my daycare kids were trained just with the regular toilet. One was scared to sit there without a toddler type seat on it so I used that for her, but only used a portable little potty one summer and decided it was just way too much of a hassle and mess.

For Megan right now we have one of those built in toddler seats that's built into the lid as she doesn't have the ability to hold herself up and she has a tiny butt . Lol we really haven't started major potty training with her yet. Probably this summer. She goes before pjs every night and sometimes randomly during the day but she's still in diapers and doesn't tell me when she needs to go.
