Those with late walkers....

Did you tend to babyfy them for a long time.

Zach is now 15 months old. his balance is great, he could walk if he wanted to. He just has no confidence.
But i was thinking last night of Madi at the same age. She had been walking for nearly 6 months, and to me she was a proper toddler. We used to paint, run around at the park, play ball, draw... you know, general toddlery things.

But with Zach i find i baby him alot. I still treat him the same as i did when he was 8 months old. He is still such a baby to me. I cant seem to get past it...

Will it all change when he walks? Will i finally see him as a little toddler?

Yes! I didn't think about until reading your post but I did.
Ben started walking 1 week before turning 15 months and since then I do so much more with him. Like drawing, playing football, let him wonder round on his own etc. - I think because not walking limits what they can do it's hard not to treat them like a baby

Its so hard not to compare him with his sister. See he talks, not alot, maybe 10 words, but she never said a word till she was 2. He also has a mouth full of teeth, 12 i think, and she never had her first til 14 months.

I just want him to get up and walk, i know they do it in their own time, but it feels like hes getting left behind

He'll get there, I was convinced Ben was never going to walk. My frIends daughter was walking at 9 months (she was 4 months younger than Ben) and I couldn't help but compare! does he have a walker?? Ben had a push along one that he used to wizz around pushing about. X

I guess i did a bit but i think the main reason behind babying her was because she's my last child. Esther didn't walk until 18months. Even once she was walking i wasn't doing the same things with her that i did with Daniel. I think a lot of it comes down to their personality too. Daniel was/is a child that needs stimulation so i gave it to him. Esther is quite happy wandering around after me and playing with bits and pieces on her own etc.

My daughter is 16mos. She still has no top middle teeth (she has some molars, though!). She just got her 3rd bottom middle tooth. She was 14mos old and only had her 2 bottom middles. Her speech is delayed. She only has 6 words. And she's not walking yet.

In fact. She didn't do controlled rolling until 10mos. She couldn't even sit herself up at 12mos (she could hold a sitting position when placed in it). She didn't start crawling until 14mos. She now walks along furniture, but not with much confidence.

She is definitely more babyish than the other kids in her daycare class. I do think that once she figures out walking she'll have to make so many more decisions and she will have so many more opportunities that it will drastically affect her in all other areas.

Not having enough teeth even affects how and what she eats. She cannot take a bite out of something. Because you use your front teeth to do that and she doesn't have top ones! So we have to cube all of her food small so she can put the whole piece in her mouth and use her few molars to chew.
