extra stairgate?

I didn't think I would be writing this sort of post any time soon seeing as my DS is only 16 months & it's walking properly yet.

But today we were at MiLs and DS decided to show us his new trick.... Opening doors. Since putting him to bed at 9pm I have been up 13 times to get him off the landing and back onto bed, he thinks it's funny. All doors were shut and we have a stairgate at the top of the stairs & all sharps & bath stuff are out of reach so he is safe.

What I was wondering should we invest in getting another stairgate for his bedroom door? Or do you have any advance?
Thanks

OH has suggested just turning the door handle upside down but I don't like the sound of that!
I am hoping that he's just doing this tonight as it's his new found thing.
It was cute the first few times he was standing on the landing shouting "mam, did it" but now I am reather tired of running up and down the stairs. I should have lost about a stone tonight haha!

I don't like the sound of it as it's what my mum used to do so the dog couldn't open the door. Kians not daft so he would eventually learn if he pushes the handle up instead of down it would open.

My OH is very silly at times! haha

We are so close to this! LO managed to get his door open the other day by pulling on his swimming bag on the handle. He ran to the hall, the stair gate was open! he shut it, locked it, went "HAHAHAHA" ran back to his room, closed the door and climbed back into bed. Im not sure we will be able to use a gate though, LO is such a light sleeper as it is, with the door closed.

I bet that was cute to see though!
I don't like the idea of the stairgate but really starting to think its a good idea for his safety. So scared he will get into the bathroom. My mum and MiL (I rang them both about it) says I shouldn't as its unfair on him,

I would get an extra stair gate. It doesn't stop them from shouting downstairs to you but it does stop the sudden appearing in the lounge door etc. As cute as it is at times when they've bee doing it every night for an hour for a month it's really not cute anymore lol

We never shut the door though so DS was able to open his door, just not actually get out of his room.
