Provera- stories??

Hi All,

Short recap dr's thought I may have PCOS apparently I don't the 1 thing that's wrong with me apart from overweightness is lacking the hormone progesterone to release an egg.

So periods had stopped again after 5 normal ish cycles in December so the dr gave me provera for 5 days, I'm on my 5th day now.

I was just wondered if anyone had any stories about provera did it help kick start there cycles again or not?

Stories good or bad would be appreciated

Hi

I take provera every couple of months because i have pcos, and it brings on AF....as for kickstarting your whole cycle again, im not too sure about that...i mean, i completely lack progesterone. i take provera, AF comes. but it doesnt then keep coming every month without the provera...i think thats what you mean?

I was on Provera to jumpstart my period after it stopped for 3 months after BC pills...but then got diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis and now after my surgery i have been getting my periods very regularly. My ob is putting me on clomid cd5-9 estrogen cd10-17 and then progesterone cd 17-28. I hope that helps

Thanks Ladies,

My Dr first thought I had PCOS - however they now say everything is fine apart from my progesterone level which is near to none - I think it was under 1 when I had it tested. I naturally had 5 normal periods in 2011 from June to Nov, but from Nov to now I've had nothing not a pip -thats why I was prescribed Provera - 5 days worth of 10mg a day. I've taken these and I got horrendous trapped wind and stomach pains while taking it. I'm now on the 7th day of taking it and nothing no withdrawal bleed or anything.......how long should it be - however the last 2 days I've felt extremely cold which I usually get when i'm about to come on.

The only other change is that CM is constant and there's a lot of it since taking it.

Is this familiar to anyone???

yes yes yes yes yes! this sounds completely like me!

i really struggle taking provera...i feel quite lethargic taking it, and i find that it just gets worse when i come off it - i think its because i (also) have NO progesterone at all, meaning that its a bigger change in hormone levels...its not easy to go from nothing to high levels of prgesterone, then back down to nothing, all in the space of a few days...

also, you say youre on your 7th day of taking it....i assume you mean 7th day SINCE taking it? because you also said you only had it prescribed for 5 days. i know that the first time i took provera, i didnt have a bleed until about 10 days after finishing it, even though it says you should have AF within 7. so i wouldnt worry too much about it, but definitely keep an eye on it. if in another 7 days you still havent had AF, then i would go back to the doctor and tell them, because then they really need to investigate it a bit more.

just a thought, were you given a pregnancy test prior to starting the provera? its something that is meant to happen, but i know no one mentioned it to me the first time i was taking provera...it may be worth taking one, just so that IF in a week you need to go back to the doctor, you can prove that its not because of possible pregnancy.

hope everything is ok. let me know how you get on

Sorry yes 7 days after taking it I'm on today.

I'm very cold - i'm in the UK and we've had snow today but i'm inside and my hands feel like ice.

My Doctor had given me this because he was worried i'd gone a few months without a period and didn't want the lining to get to thick. Then it was agreed that if I get to a BMI of 32-34 by my next appt he would prescribe me clomid.

Yes he did ensure that I did a pregnancy test, which I did and was BFN Didn't expect anything less really.

Weightloss Weightloss Weightloss is my goal at the moment.

for the time being, i wouldnt worry to much...as i said, i went 10 days after until i got AF! maybe book an appointment for a week's time, so its there just in case you need it..you can always cancel it if AF shows up!

thats the same reason i got given provera...i went 6 months or so without AF, but i had initially gone to my gp about it after about 3/4 months....but he didnt take me seriously

weightloss would probably help with the provera working to its best. and being given clomid is a fantastic motivator for it! are you finding it quite hard to lose the weight? how far off your target are you?

Have your AF's started again or are you taking Provera every month? Do you have PCOS?

My BMI is 38.6 I think that was at the end of March - I do really struggle with losing the weight but i'm doing a charity 10k in May (6 weeks away) so hoping to step it up a bit and tackle it I think its 2 stone to get down to the 32-34 region.
