hey xkatie - you should get the results right then, so I think your questions would be based on what happens. If they are closed, ask if they can be opened (sometimes the dye will clear them out), if they are open (thinking good thoughts for you that they are) than I would ask her what your next steps would be. We had met with our doctor the day before to go over all our other tests which were all normal, so the HSG was what we were waiting on. So I knew going into the test what our plan would be with either outcome. I would also ask what you can expect after the test any bleeding, etc. For me I took the ibuprofen before the test so I only had very dull cramping for a few hours after. I did have a little bleeding. Hope these help. I wish you the best. Try to relax, because I think it will be worse if you are tense. It is a little bit of pain but it will give you answers. Keep me posted!

Hi,

I had my HSG this Monday.
Its just like having a smear test and having a doctor who knows what they are doing!
I was a little uncomfortable when the dye went through but it was not painful more like a minor period cramp. My tubes were clear therefore not painfull.

Its worth it and they should tell you if all okay, I was told there and then all okay and my tubes are clear etc...

The only thing I have noticed is a slight throbbing and pulling in my left ovary since the HSG...Im due to ovoulate on the 12th or 13th this month...
lol as my hubby says hopefully the cobwebs are all cleared out...we have an appointment with the FS on the 11th this month, depending on our results we will probably not hang around and go for an IUI

Have you been given medicine to help you ovulate? The dye they use, if you have unopened tubes will usua, which helps the eggs to drop. So i'd say yes! Probably take about 45 -1 hr

I just wondered when and why might you be sent for a HSG test? The Dr mentioned to me before that one of the causes of infertility could be blocked Fallopian Tubes but I didnt realise that this was the kind of test that was done until I read this post so thank you!

Hi,

I had my HSG done recently and dont worry, i found it was just like haveing a smear test. I didnt find it painful. I have posted about my experience. Ill just try and find the link for you to read through if you want to. my OH wasnt allowed in with me cause of the Xrays - which i was upset with bt it was fine in the end.

This is my personal experience. Good luc with yours, im sure itll be fine. I know how nerve wracking it is to think about going through something you have no idea what it will be like.

Also, i didnt have my results straight away, beacuse i had so many tests done at once and going to different hospitals etc, i had to do all tests then go back for results which was i think around 6-8 weeks after. #I think but really not sure.

Sorry for the long post x

Well i had to bring it up on my own at my last doctor. She and her nurse thought i was was weird or something for just coming out and saying that i wanted it. I have 3 cousins on my moms side that have problems getting pregnant, one i know, had 3 ivf treatments - had her HSG test - did ivf treatment and bam preggo! She was telling me i didn't need it...well anyways i moved, so switched doctors, and she said that she thought my last doctor was crazy for not trying it, since we have been TTC since jan.2011

I'm nervous, but you ladies have calmed me a little bit. I'm going by myself, since my husband can't take off work on the day its scheduled. I wish I had a friend to go with or my mom! but i don't know anyone here

I've been on Provera-to have a period then Clomid-for ovulation. It didn't work. I'm seeing a new doctor so I'm kinda starting over, she has my records, she just wants us to do a fresh start since none of that worked..well the provera did. i was on metformin-to help with ovulation, also for about 2 months but i couldn't get over the side effects, and i was in cosmetology school so it was hard to just run to the bathroom! I hope it just clears them out and i can start provera and some other ovulation med. and get preggo asap!! but isn't that everyones dream? lol
