TTC with PCOS and a long cycle

Hi all!

I am new to this forum stuff and I would like to have a buddy. LOL.

My husband and I just decided to start TTC#1 and we are completely lost. In Jan 2010 I was diagnosed with PCOS and it has been hell ever since. I have come to realize that I have an extremely long cycle (78 days) and it is almost impossible to track them. I am on Metformin and a few OTC things as well. I take the metformin once a day and i also take a prenatal, a mutivitamin, and vitex. Vitex i take twice a day but not for much longer.

I look forward to hearing from each and everyone who is in the same boat as i am!!!

thanks all!!!!!!

Hi there!

I'm in the same boat- was diagnosed with PCOS and my cycles are 73+ days long. I've just started taking 500mg metformin once a day and am going to up it to twice a day after 2 weeks. Do you find the metformin helps regulate your periods?

I have lean PCOS and my BMI is currently 19.5. Even though this is healthy, I've read that a BMI of 21-24 is optimal for conception so I'm currently trying to gain weight...

If it's any consolation I've heard of people conceiving relatively quickly even with long cycles. xxx

Hi Faith! We've only been trying for 2 months but over the past few years have had a couple of two week periods where we haven't used any protection and nothing.

To be honest, I'm not sure how much of it is because of weight but I'm willing to gain weight just in case it does make a difference! How long have you been trying?

I'm also a vegetarian, which people also blame but I really don't believe that's a cause.

Pretty much my only PCOS symptoms are polycystic ovaries and stupidly long cycles (I have about 4 periods a year!).

Are you taking any medication to help?

xxx

Heya!
It will be 9 months at the end of this month since TTC!
I know I was fed up of people blaming it on my weight!
When and how did you get diagnosed?
Ive just been through tests! But I have not been put on anything yet sadly to help!
Mt OH gets his SA this week so I am going to see what happens with that!
My symptoms are long/irregular cycles and acne!

I went to my GP who referred me to a gynae who took my history, and did an internal (transvaginal) ultrasound which showed polycystic ovaries. He put me on metformin straight away and said to give that 6 months to a year. If we're still not pregnant by then he said he'll put me on clomid. I was diagnosed back in November 2010. I didn't start the metformin back then because my BMI was 18.5 and I wanted to see if gaining 6+ pounds would help. At the time I hadn't had a period for over a year. Gaining that little bit extra I think probably helped my periods come back a little.

Sorry if that's a bit jumbled, hope it makes sense!!!

Hope you get some medical input soon- I've heard great things about metformin. x

Good luck and lots of babydust to you too!

I have no idea if I ovulate. I don't bother using the OPKs because I've heard they're useless for PCOS. But I do occasionally have ovulation signs. My only TTC plan is metformin, weight gain, and regular BDing

It is so annoying having irregular cycles! I POAS loads because I have no idea when to expect AF!

We'll get there. Keep me updated
