Depressing

Just wondering if anyone out there is feeling like me, TTC at 38 with first baby and its just not happening. Been trying for 7 months now and each time I get my AF I just want to cry. Each time I get a little more depressed. Any stories out there of women getting pregnant at 38 to give me hope????

you should probably start seeing a specialist.. they say anyone over the age of like 30 should see a doctor/specialist if they have been trying for 6months. anyone younger its a year..

Hi Taurus,

I'm in the same situation -- 37 and we've been trying for #1 since October. I can feel my stupid AF coming on as I type this. Have you been talking to your doctor about next steps? My husband has had a semen analysis done, and I just had an HSG and had FSH levels checked. I found it helpful to know what our issue seems to be (low sperm count). Since you've been trying for more than 6 months now, your doc may recommend these tests as well. We're trying Clomid for the next month or two and will probably then move on to IUI. Don't have any time to waste, and it is really so disheartening failing month after month, isn't it?

Hang in there...

My aunt is 38 and unexpectedly, but happily, pregnant with her 5th child. She is all worried because of age. But should be fine. Best of luck to you! I know how frustrating it is to be expecting a BFP every month but only seeing red (pun intended lol). I have been doing it for 5 years!

I totally understand how depressing it all can be, but try to hang in there. I am only a few years younger, 34, and was TTC for 10 months before I got my BFP. Now I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and still can not believe it. I was so caught up in thinking it would NEVER happen, that something was wrong, that it just wasn't working, and then....it happened! Hoping the same for you!

I was at a hospital back in November 2011, for a back problem, and a physical therapist there told me that his wife of 41 had just given birth to twins. So yes, there are plenty of positive stories out there for you to keep hope. I have read that 39 is the age where fertility gets most difficult, but don't let that get you down. Have you gotten everything checked out by an OBGYN?

After 6 months of trying after age 35, you qualify as having "infertility problems" in doctor's eyes so they can do a battery of testing on you and your husband, to see if there are any issues. He might have low sperm count and/or low sperm quality. You might suffer problems such as PCOS, a blocked fallopian tube, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and they can prescribe a number of fertility medications. All of those conditions can be treated.

Usually Clomid is the first thing tried, and it's very cheap, not horribly expensive as some fertility drugs.

I have heard other stories of women conceiving well into their early 40s without problems and even without any fertility treatments, so don't worry too much. I would go to your OBGYN and ask if there's anything she/he can do to help you along, since you have been trying for over 6 months without success.

I wish you much baby dust!

Thank you all for your encouraging comments.

Septbride, we had all of the normal tests done, sperm count, my hormones levels etc, and the Doctor said it was all fine. I have been charting and using a OPK and I am definitely ovulating.

I think it is truly a waiting game, and the more I stress over the less its going to happen. Giving ourselves one more month trying and then off to fertility clinic. Just trying to avoid it as I dont know what it is like in another countries, but in Australia its very very expensive.

Tigermaple, 5 years!!! My heart breaks for you, hope it happens for you soon xx
