how soon will Gp offer tests?

I am sick of googling pregnancy in over 40's now and reading all the negative stuff too
We have only been trying since december, but I had the mirena coil in since the birth of my twins , who are nearly 10, so not sure if that is having an effect too?
I have four children and conceived in first month with all of them so guess I am just being impatient, but my body is playing tricks on me every month with full blown pregnancy symptoms every month now! I even threw up this time!
I have read because I am 42 my gp can offer tests after 6 months, is that true? and what exactly do they entail?
