TTC after Mirena coil removal

Hi Ladies

I'm Melissa, I will be 24 in September, live with my FiancÚ of 7 years with our 2 children (see tickers below for ages), we have recently decided to TTC #3 to complete our family!

I had a Mirena coil fitted 2.5 years after the birth of DS, all went well with it and I still had a period every month with a few missing in between over the past few years....Around May I began to have problems with it (10day long periods, AF like pains through out my cycle) so we decided to have it removed....and we have both agreed its a good time to TTC #3

I had the coil removed on the 30th July with a light bleed after for 4/5 days....my period was due 25th July but it never came so i'm guessing that the bleed after removal was also my period??

We decided to try right away but due to me going on a mini break with the kids around O time, which im guessing was 11-13th sometime, we BD on 10th so very slight chance I could be pregnant? Have the usual phantom symptoms and over analysing EVERYTHING !

Anyway i'm just wondering if any other ladies have recently had a mirena coil removed and if so how long have you been trying so far? Did your cycles return back to normal straight away?

Is the Mirena coil different than the Mirena IUD?

I had the Mirena IUD in for 7 months. I got it taken out in December of 2011 because I was having really horrible side effects from it. My cycles were insane after having removed. 40+ days long, two week long periods, delayed ovulation (or sometimes no ovulation at all) & extremely short luteal phases.. We've been actively TTC baby #4 since May with no luck yet. I just ordered some Vitex & ovulation test strips, so hopefully we'll get our last baby soon!

Good luck to you!

Thanks for your reply, Brightly. Yes same thing Mirena coil/IUD....

Did you have normal periods with IUD or did yours disappear? Sorry its taking so long for you to conceive...I have read so many stories already, i'm so scared I conceived my DD and DS with no problems at all, DD was the result of no protection on one occasion and DS was conceived after 3 months of trying...i'm just hoping it is the same this time around!

Did you conceive quickly with previous pregnancies?

I had the Mirena IUD for a little over 3 years, I only spotted (occasionally) while on it. However, I know my body pretty well and could tell if I ovulated and still had all the other symptoms of AF usually every month regardless of bleeding or not.

Right now I'm on my 2nd cycle after having it removed, and just O'ed yesterday so now I'm in the TWW.

This is my second Mirena, the first I conceived on my 2nd cycle after removal so I'm really hopefully that this cycle we did it.

Good luck! Fx'ed for you

I'm too afraid to look up anything about TTC after Mirena. I remember the day I finally started researching the problems I was having while I still had it inserted & everything clicking in my head that everything I was experiencing was from Mirena. I had it removed a few days after I realized it was causing my issues!

I never had a period while I was on it. Not even any spotting.

My other 3 children were all conceived within two cycles of TTC with no problem.

I have an appt for an annual PAP in October. If we haven't fallen pregnant by then, I will be bringing in my charts to show my obgyn in hopes she'll help me out somehow!

Although the mirena isnt suppose to chemically effect hormones through bloodstream like other contraceptives in some women it does. once i realised the effect it had on me i took it out. my cycles started to get longer started bleeding longer and at one point i went 7mths without a period. i would go to doc and get them to do a blood test to see if ur hormone levels are normal

Everyone kept telling me I was crazy when I insisted that the Mirena was causing all these awful things going on with my body. I know I am not insane & I know the Mirena damn well near ruined my body & my mind while I had it in. What kind of effects were you having with it?

I had horrible mood swings explosive and angry, i piled on weight, lost a lot of hair my brothers started to tease me about being bald (even after 2yrs it has not gone back to normal), i was constantly bloated, cycles all over the place, tired and depressed are some of that i can think off. i couldnt stand it anymore so i pulled it out myself and it has taken ages to start to get back to normal. it had my thyroid hormone levels go all out of whack as well
