Oh nooooo! I am so glad I saw this as I have been drinking 2-3 cups a day, in replacement to normal tea and coffee I thought I was doing good!

Will be interested to see what info you find about other herbal teas, need to drink something hot!

Another quick question - do you think that this only applies to green tea or all herbal and fruit teas should be avoided just incase? I can't seem to find any info about it xx

I know hun, I thought the same! I thought it would be good for TTC, but going to stay away from it now. I can't seem to find any info about whether other herbal or fruit teas can be harmful. I'm like you, I like to have a hot drink and would really like to find out if this just relates to green tea xx

I think im going to get a variety of fruit/herbal/decaff teas and coffee and have a different one each time, then least i won't be having the caffeine, but won't be having a high concentration of anything else either.

Its a tricky one isnt it! The studies seem to show 1-2 cups are acceptable and to take a folic acid suppliment. I only drink one cup in the morning and I dont think thats going to do any harm. Its the tannin in teas that prevent iron absorption so if your one to be iron defecient then too much tea will affect you, but in saying that iron is stored in the body, so if your a lucky one with good iron stores it shouldnt make that big of a difference, whereas folate is water soluable meaning you have to keep replacing it. The thing that mucks up folate is the ECGC (epigallocatechins) in green tea, 5 times than what it is in black tea, it binds to the dihydrofolate reductase enzyme (cancer cells need this to grow, thats why its a good cancer fighter) thats why they think drinking large amounts in your first trimester can cause spina bifida and tube defects. Its only true teas that contain these things, from the camellia sinensis plant, so your other teas from herbal and flower infusions you think would be okay.
