How I concieved with PCOS and very irregular periods!

So for all you women out there that are TTC and have PCOS ( poly cystic ovary syndrome) I have had it since I was twelve. Every since I started the wonderful cycle, I have had my period once every 6 months. So in a sense it was my birth control in my early twenties. When I started seriously dating, I started birth control because I didnt want to get pregnant at that time. I missed one pill and voila! My son was concieved. Not two years later, I got married and we both had one child and didnt want anymore, birth control again, this time the patch, had it on for 3 weeks, had my period and got pregnant again! Now with this time, 7 years later, remarried and my husband does not have any children and I thought it would be fun to actually try so we tried for a year!! Nothing. Infact, my periods were regular and my doc said my pcos had gone away so I thought it would be very easy to concieve. My cycles were 34 days , we tried everything to get pregnant and nothing. So I went to my trusty birth control just to see. I had my period for three days, put a patch on for a week, took it off, had another period for two days very light, did the BD and here we are today, 6 weeks along.!!! I am not sure why it works for me but I thought I would share. Baby dust to all!!!

hi deeder31,

I am also diagnosed with PCOS since 2004. I am 29years old now and planned to extend our family. This is my first TTC... i have been on BCP and metformin all these years. i went off BCP in Dec 2011 and got my normal 2 periods without BCP.. the cycles now are 29days..just started trying in FeB 2012. i got an OPK but showed -ve OPK all month of Feb. ignoring the OPK, we had sex 2days before ovulation (hoping 29days cycle) and now i am 8DPO..

im very concerned with the -ve OPK but what i read in forums is that with PCOS you dont get a +ve OPK..please suggest how can i conceive with PCOS..thanks in advance

Thank you for sharing this. We had been NTNP for over a year, and then moved to TTC. I had a 97 day cycle and tried EVERYTHING to end it naturally with no luck. The doctors won't prescribe provera up here, so I was stuck waiting. A pharmacist finally gave me birth control pills to take for 2 weeks (2 pills a day) to induce AF. So hopefully...with that and soy, this will be our month!!!!

Wow thats amazing, congrates. Have you spoken with your GP and asked whether it was the pill which assisted you in any way?? I fell pregnant on the pill when I was 16 but that wasnt ment to be sadly but I never went back to the pill because I didnt see the point if it didnt work. I tried different pills a few yrs later but all gave me the most painful breasts and other symptoms so I stopped. Im now 29 and have been ntnp for 4yrs now and you have got me thinking now if being on the pill all those yrs ago assisted me in getting pregnant in any way...Thanks for sharing x

I've read that most failed bcp pregnancies are from.women with pcos. I may try it, but I'm a little apprehensive it would work for me
